Firefighter's axe in a backpack, but not an M4?

Recommended Posts

How come you can't put an M4 into a backpack, but you can put the firefighter's axe in it? If you compare the measurements of an M4 with that of a firefighter's axe, you'll see that they're quite alike in length and weight although the axe varies and can be longer, shorter or weigh more than the M4 does. If you cba to look it up, the regular measurements for a firefighter's axe seems to be 28 or 38 inches long and weighing between 3.5lb and 8lb where 6lb seems to be the most common, whereas a M4 seems to have a total length of 33 inches and weigh 6.36 lb unloaded (according to wikipedia), is there any feasible explanation for this?

"Balanced game play"

Whatever, I think that's stupid and unrealistic. Either we can fit both in the backpack, or none.

Oh, so there's not really any logical explanation for it other than balancing? Is it just that other people should know that you're armed?

Well, I would have to agree, either have the option to fit both or neither.

I think it's pretty fair as it is now, if someone has a rifle it should be visable. I can kind of see keeping melee weapons and pistols in backpacks because they're not quite as threatening. I'm glad the system is the way it is, I can more easily see if someone has an m4 and is going to kill me if I walk up to them and wiggle/wave.

You can hide fnx45 or magnum in your pants, people will not know.

Yeah, guns should be visible on your back because if you were to get it out of your backpack the person would obviously see anyways, BUT it would be useful to be able to store a gun in your backpack AND your primary weapon slot. So Idk what I'd rather have.

This is typically what I do. I carry very little, no camo, no backpack, just a pistol and a little food/water. I greet people and kill hostile folks with the pistol, even people with m4's who think they're badass for trying to rob/kos someone with no gear lol

They could maybe make it to where if you already have a primary gun, you can store (up to 1?) another gun in your pack. They could also alternatively make it to where if you are keeping your gun in your pack, it takes like 15-20 secs to get it out and assemble it(and it has to be unloaded maybe?). Benefit being you don't have your gun out if you are indeed friendly traveling or don't want to be kos, but have it if you see someone you are concerned about (or are travelling to your sniper position above elektro).

Well, you can carry a fireaxe because it is stored vertically and can fit into the backpack. I'm not 100% sure since I have never tried to put my guns in my backpack but I think the m4 does not fit horizontally. If you could kind of ''rotate'' items in the fututre maybe you would be able to hide guns in your back pack.

But they can guess, unless you ARE excited to see them!

The reason is simple. An M4 on your shoulder frees up backpack space, and a large proportion of it to be sure.

I'm all for you using up all that space, though, but if you put an M4 in there, I'd also like to insist that you can't have it on your hot bar and instantly have it in hand at the push of a button.

Same with the gun bag idea, but I fail to see how a gun bag would be any less identifiable than a gun slung over your shoulder. You might not know if it's a Mosin or M4, but it's a gun!

Its a gameplay decision, considering this is a video game after all. I'm sure they'll work something out soon with gun bags and whatnot. Realistically you can carry plenty of M4s on your person, especially since they seem to have slings. You could also have it sticking out of your backpack. The space between your back and your backpack, utilizing the straps of said backpack, would be a great place to hang a weapon horizontally with minor discomfort.

The notion that this is realistic needs to go away, its for gameplay and it makes sense to me.

dont know why the complaint rifles dont fit in backpack, maybe the mountain, but why would want an m4 in there it will take alot of space and become useless if you are caught in a fire fight all of the sudden. the axe is different story, they might be of the same length but the axe could have the blade part out of the zipper and the handle is thin enough that wouldnt take much space. Yeah i know im going too far on the real thing. so i highlighted the more logical reason.

We usually run a group with at least one of us with a Mosin. I think it makes the game more realistic having a spotting sniper on a hill and a bunch of soldiers/grunts going in and clearing out rooms.

It's a lot better than the mod when you carry like 6 machine guns/rifles in your bag. So unrealistic.

Right my thinking on the gun bag is that you could conceivably carry an m4 in your hand and have a mosin in the gun bag. 2 primary weapons and you don't lose the immersion of holding a rifle in a backpack

But you can do that already, with the built in OP protection that if you change gun mid-fight the other one goes to the ground. You got to remember to pick that back up before you move!

Has the advantage that it's quick, and doesn't require any inventory screen BS to do it as I'd expect with a bag or backpack.

EDIT: I do know about the current bug WRT two primaries and the slight glitch on DBase save/load of a character. But I'll assume that that will be rectified in due course.

I do agree with philadelphia here. Would be nice to "really" have 2 rifles. I atm got m4 for "self protection" and shotgun for "funs and lols" and axe to kill zombies silently without consuming ammo. However i just lost my shotgun as i dropped it on the ground when i swithced to axe to kill zombie that ran on me (shotgun was in my hand and m4 in back) lucky it was shotgun and not the me4 tho... Immediatly after that i got disconnected from server due packet loss and i lost my shotgun there.. Then theres also the bug when you drop stuff and it disappears. Also secondary rifle could be backup weapon if you have limited ammo like i do.. Also gun in backbag could be made visible outside. Ive sure seen those IRL. Also gunbag not bad idea either with some limitations. Maybe only for rifles and ammo etc. And maybe some delay on it or not working with hotbar or something...

RL rifle in RL bag...

"Pulls two pings and break's M4 apart"

"Slides into pack"

Add in a 30sec-1min build timer and I wouldn't mind. They of course would have to load and chamber causing an ambient sound aka warning.

As for the fire axe fitting in your pack that is whack. Here's the fix. You take your newly found hand saw and cut it down to a "fire hatchet" that of course can be thrown 10m!

Causes KO's with head shots and instant bleeding with body and limb with the chance at a broken leg should it land. Also should have a 30-40% chance of hitting hilt first causing blunt trauma.

That or they could add the look of your axe head down in your pack with the handle sticking out. Granted same could be used for a none broken down M4...

This.  It's good to both see if someone has a rifle, and have others see you having one.

How exactly would this be a problem once you put the safety on?

Or perhaps you could simply take out the magazine and chambered round.

I would support the idea of putting guns & axes into packs(i know you can already with the axe, but want that removed) if the backpacks stop being treated as a giant holster and start being treated as a closed container that you need to put in your hands in order to open it and access your stuff.

I like that it stops ultra gamer pc master race CoD in1080p clans from carrying scoped mosins and M4's with every attachment while wearing gasmaks. But yeah I guess it's kinda unrealistic.

↑ They can already, dumbass.

My personal opinion is that you should be able to put guns in bags. However, when removing them from your bag, you should go through a 5 second animation to simulate rustling through your bag to get the gun out. This would allow people to carry multiple larger guns and prevent them from surprising friendly players.

I also think this should apply to pistols as well unless you have the gun holster or an assault vest equipped. I'd like to see a graphic added to display a pistol in an assault vest the way the gun holster does.

Takes forever to type on my phone, bah!
