Suggestion - disable VOIP during gameplay

Recommended Posts

Telepathy? You do realize that EVERY national army worldwide uses radio communication to relay information to their squad and HQ? How is using Teamspeak/Ventrilo/Mumble/Skype any different?

Ever used a real radio?

I don't believe that DayZ should be doing background scans for programs such as teamspeak.

You even see the Devs use whatever third party chat program in their videos.

Not to mention they encourage the "meta" chat.

Honestly its fine, the game can only be so realistic and "authentic" honestly though it is kind of annoying not knowing if you come across a guy who has 5 geared friends in the next town or not...buuut IDK, I still use and see others use in game chat a lot and there isn't even much reason to talk to people right now. So I count that a plus.

When they implement walkie talkie's im sure the social aspect will increase, though honestly I just see clans using the walkie talkie/radios to say JOIN OUR CLAN JOIN OUR CLAN over and over across the server....which will get pretty annoying.

Hand radios work as of the latest patch.

Once you put a battery in them you can change it to a certain frequency (there us a lot to choose from)

Once you and your buddies all have radios tuned to the same frequency, then you just press < and > to change it to that frequency.

It works just like direct chat. That way you dont have to hotkey it and stop to talk to someone. It just works the same way TS or in game chat.

IMO, I would like TS, Skype or any outside communication to be banned somehow from the game now that hand radios work so well.

As authentic as DayZ is, IMO outside communication is the same as cranking up your gamma at night or using 3PP.

(Don't get you panties in a bunch, it's just my opinion.)

All you can do is either start your own server and ban people that don't use in game chat functionality or find a server that does that. As of now it doesn't make sense. In a year? I guarantee there will be servers with RP only rules. If you don't want to play on them you won't have to.

Find a community that thinks the same way that you do and don't try and force your play style on other people. I understand your goal here, it is the same goal I have when I wish to myself that third person was abolished, but I realize that I cannot force that on anyone, I can just tell them how much better it is and see if they give it a shot.

i might add that at the present time, doing so violate the server rental agreement.

Does OP realise that Steam has a chat system?

No chat = no steam = no DayZ...

I do not like the fact that a lot of grouped bandits speak effectively silently during the game, by speaking on skype/teamspeak or any other medium that allows them to gossip out of the range of people that may be close to them. I for one am as lone wolf who does his own thing, only then to be jumped by a bunch of silent bandits who then mug me or kill me.

VOIP should be disabled during gameplay, and when walkie talkies are introduced in their fullness, that is when you can communicate long distances, but still you will need to speak in game for them to work, alerting anyone of your prescence.

Me and my bro (before he left to go to australia :() used to chat all the time just using the in game proximity chat function, as we would do in real life.

I know there is a shit ton of other things that need to be addressed, but I hope this will eventually be implemented.

This has my full support.

I like the idea of 3rd party programs being blocked when people can create their own servers , because I do believe its very unfair for a group to silently communicate BUT if they were to add 5 or so new hand signals (military ones for movement and observations and shit ) so if people were using team speak they could at least argue they were using the hand signals to keep it "real and fair" as possible to team speakers and non team speakers ... So if you use team speak lets say just be courteous and use hand signals so as to not "cheat" IF they are added in and if you're a lone wolf , get better headphones and turn up your volume so you can hear people sneaking ;).

If no one has just mentioned adding a battleeye restriction for known 3rd party voip programs... i am now.

Anyone who wants to resort to skype on mobile devices or other extreme means of using a 3rd party to chat for their banditry will be the extreme minority.

BattlEye won't ever block legitimate VOIP applications. No matter what you think of them, these are not and never will be considered hacks or cheats. Sorry.

This unfortunately, would be impossible. Even if they could somehow restrict all the possible voice commands, you would run into the following scenarios.

1) a separate computer for voice.

2) Cellphone for skype/voice

3) Xbox for voice (i know people who have done this)

I agree that it would add even more depth to the game and make it more awesome, but unfortunately it is unenforceable outside of something like a lan center.

What if my girlfriend wanted to get ahold of me while i was gaming?

Honestly, third party communication is very, very close to cheating. Not only does it brake much of the point of advanced in-game communication, worse still it gives unfair advantage. Blocking it sounds bit harsh though.
