Edged Weapon system

Recommended Posts

New item: Whetstone

New item: (Up for debate) Sword

Blades of poor status may be repaired at the cost of time. A quiet but distinct noise is made when using the whetstone to maintain your edged weapons.

Any melee weapon with a blade can be repaired to +2 its base status. A Damaged Bayonet could be improved to Pristine, but a Ruined Fire Axe would only be able to repair as high as Damaged.

Different sized whetstones could be available for flexible inventory management. A smaller stone might only be able to effectively sharpen small knives and bayonets.

Once zombies are abundant, such an item should be rare and coveted by most players.

I like this idea! As long as killing a handful of zombies doesn't break your edged weapon. I would give all my beans to the dev that added in a katana as a super rare, top tier melee weapon!

I love the idea of being able to sharpen melee weapons, I just don't know how I feel about the presence of swords. Other than that, great idea

If it only goes up +2, can't I just use it again to get pristine? It shouldn't be a one-time use thing; it's a damn rock. I do like this idea, though. Maybe edged weapons sharpened with the whetting stone do more damage/cause bleeding faster? As for swords, there should be a minuscule chance that one spawns at the castles.

Doctor Ned you can't say +2! or else i'll want my revolver with a enchanted grip that gives +3 to accuracy :P

But i actually like the idea of sharp weapon maintenance! Beanz!

Now just give me a machete or a paper slicer blade!

They should have different levels of sharpness

Razor edge - lasts a very short time

Sharp - lasts a medium amount

Working edge - lasts a long time

Dull - lasts a very long time

Blunt - lowest level, useless

Razor sharpness would do significantly more damage in combat but the sharpness would disappear quickly. If you wanted to keep your knife "razor" sharp you would have to be constantly maintaining it. Or you could settle for a working edge and forgo the constant touch-ups.

I'm always touching up my knives... multiple times every day, even when I don't use them  >: ) if you want true sharpness you can't just go leaving an edge unmaintained.
