Helicopter and server restarts

I've just recently bought Arma 2 and expansion and am fairly new to DayZ. I was playing on a German server that restarts every 80-90 minutes (with a minute counter and warning). 20 minutes before the server was about to restart I found a small working helicopter in a forest North of Guglovo (I believe it's was in the Black Forest, but I cannot confirm).

 

I decided to try and fly it over to Elektrozavodsk, but I could only see it from a distance when the server had to restart. Relogging made me realise it doesn't save you being in a vehicle and I spawned on the ground I was flying above. Bummer.

 

Now I have a few questions. Is it possible to save a vehicle for the server restart? It kind of sucks finding one 20 minutes before a restart. Is it server dependent that certain vehicles just spawn? Was it a spawn, or did I just steal it from someone else? How lucky was I exactly at finding that helicopter?

You are right. I got confused because this forum is linked at http://dayzmod.com/. I had to scroll down a little it appears.
