Why are my leg bones made of glass?

Sort of defeats the purpose of melee weapons when zeds snap my legs in half on the first hit, and I do mean the first.

I snuck around for hours with my hatchet, trying to find a damn gun, but a zed saw/heard me through a wall (I was indoors), strolled inside and shattered my femurs. I was at 12k blood, mind you. First altercation with a zombie for that entire life.

I really love the realism aspect of this game. I think it's pretty awesome. But it just seems rather easy for a zombie to break your legs and leave you helpless, especially since we no longer start with morphine (or a gun, or water...).

I can this getting nerfed in a future patch maybe, it does seem excessive from all the post I'm seeing, maybe quick knockdowns should be put in their place, like a 2 second KO, because a standing zombie attacking a standing player would have great difficulty attacking the legs with their hands, doesn't quite make sense.
