Friends in the apocalypse

Recommended Posts

DayZ has always been unforgiving towards outside groups of friends playing together. Two new players to the game would have a hell of a time trying to find each other. Even when everyone is experienced enough to survive and navigate the map, you still face many obstacles just in meeting up. After meeting up, you're given no help in identifying or locating your other group members. You can't respawn near the group. You can't walk up to someone in the game and add them as a steam friend. There's no clan system or squad chat.

My question is what do you think of this? Do you want to see more or less help for groups?

I don't see a problem with it personally. You move faster alone, but safer in a group. Seems to be fair.

I would love for the game spawning system to accommodate some kind of party system.

But helping two fresh spawns find eachother is one thing. But i don't like the idea of me looting up north, and my friend logs on spawning next to me.

Would be way too op.

For the chat part, i dunno, i always use an outside voip to talk to the people i am playing with

Some of the most epic Dayz experiences come from the journey to join your friends.  Picking a place on the map and everyone converging is great fun.

As far as marking team mates, I say no.  Try to remember what everyone looks like and go with it.  In the middle of a battle, it can be tense and fun!

Well, why should it be more beneficial to play in a group other than those benefits that other people merit group play (such as more fun, generally people see a group of players as more of a threat and there's safety in that and so on and so forth)? The game doesn't need mechanics to reward group play by having spawn points that are related to where your group members are or having a system which lets you see where your friends are, it sucks just as much for the solo player to die up north as it does for the ones playing in groups. As for fresh spawns, you can just make an agreement to meet in at X and people will run there - that's what I do and it's not really any problem.

So personally I feel that the system is fine as it is. No changes needed.

What about two players meeting in-game. Should they have any option for making a connection?(steam friends, or something along those lines.)

I can see the organizational and logistical benefit from having a team/party system, maybe having a green dot over your friend's head or something. However, this game goes for realism and how many times have you actually seen a green dot over your friend's head?

As far as the ingame friend system, steam works just fine for that. SHIFT-TAB!!

No spawn meeting in game..........just no. It is a lame idea to accommodate noobs and would be exploited.

We lost 2 to friendly fire the other night. Situation became way too out of control, people got jumpy, friends got shot. No other game out there instills that adrenaline and paranoia that comes from gunfights.

For example: We had one of our group chase down a bandit trying to kill him but ran out of ammo mid gun fight. In TS he's going "shit I'm dead i'm dead" not really dead but assuming he'd get blasted. I was holding down our original location and he ran back. I thought he was dead based on his previous outburst, and this time he came around the corner and was really dead. I blew him clean out of his boots.

Adding in who's who would take away classic moments like this which imo separate the great squads from the rag tag ones like ours clearly is

I had a similar situation!

I was killed and respawned, grabbed a fire axe that was near me and sprinted back to Nichnoya, where the fire fight was still going on.  I am picking my way through the buildings, with one of my five friends relaying where the fight currently was (the wooded treeline to the south of town).  I am hiding and see a lone guy making his way down the hill towards my house.  He takes cover in a bush next to me and I rush over and axe him in the back twice before I hear one of my partners start screaming that he is under attack!  We laughed about it, even though he eventually put himself down (no gear and black and white screen due to blood loss).  It is just what makes the game cool.

The majority of successful bandits are in groups

I would like to have some ability to maybe customize my kevlar or weapon with spraypaint or maybe some kind of emblem. I have talked about maybe some kind of uniformity with my friends. As for communication a sincgars radio would be a nice addition there should be some kind of commo in game but im sure these guys are working that side too.
