How should servers handle loot?

  1. 1. How should loot be handled by the server?

    • Loot should not respawn after the reset spawns them.
    • It should respawn once the loot table gets low enough.
    • Loot should spawn in over time, in small portions across the map.
    • Loot should spawn like in the mod, when players are close by.
    • Loot should spawn in a large quantities, but will not respawn for a couple of days or for very long periods of time.

"Loot should not respawn after the reset spawns them." - Creates a sense of desperation for loot when you play on a high population server or a server that hasn't reset it quite a while.

 

"It should respawn once the loot table gets low enough." - Would fix the issue with people not being able to find loot after searching for long periods of time.

 

"Loot should spawn in over time, in small portions across the map." - Causes less server hopping (maybe), because when you hop to a new or low population server there will still be no guarantee of loot being there.

 

"Loot should spawn like in the mod, when players are close by." - Causes less stress on the server, although easily exploited to get easy loot.

 

"Loot should spawn in a large quantities, but will not respawn for a couple of days or for very long periods of time." - Kind of like the first option but more extreme.

I think the way it is works quite well. I mean come on, it's a large enough map to get enough to survive even with 40 players online! might need to change once the amount of max players rises.

Head north on a 40/40 servers and majority of the towns have they're doors closed and loot intact......

 

Wait at a military base on the same server, and nobody will show up.

Personally I voted for the last one. Lets say that all the public hive servers had the exact same settings. The time of day, the weather, and temperature. Now lets say the day would last 20 hrs, that way nobody can complain that they always end up playing at night, because the time will always be different when they get on. Then make it so mass quantities of loot spawn every week or make it random set of time, causing it too seem like the apocalypse just occurred.

 

Seems like a fun idea, although it would be easily exploitable because of server-hopping. Perhaps it would be better for lone private hives.
