MillionsTx 0 Posted January 12, 2014 Alreet chaps! I am a complete noob to this game, saw it on the tv and thought i have to get it! Played for an hour yesterday and i am going to have a good few hours today....... However i have a few questions! If you can't save then what on earth do you do if you want to leave the game?I can't enter any doors unless i sprint at them? (Is this a version issue?) If i have a friend who is also going to play online, how am i supposed to meet up with him? I take it there is no way of spawning next to friends? So far i have come accross 2 zombies. My first ever spawn there was one infront of me so i tried punching it to death but that just made me pass out/die. The second one i came across literally scared the life out of me, so i gave it a few digs to the face, sprinted for a while, spun around and it was face to face with me, once again scareing the life out of me! Apologies for the newbie questions, looking forward to getting some gear together and helping some people! Steam: MillionsTxPSN: MillionsTx

whothehellishe 81 Posted January 12, 2014 You always log in wherever u logged out. So avoid logging out in populated places. You need to open the door with F.Get a map, get teamspeak, mumble etc, new spawns always spawn close to the coast.Dont aggro zombies unless you have an axe. If u do and u dont got one run. Hope this helps, good luck and dont be a douche :)

There are a small percent of buildings that can't be entered though. As far as "saving" try to find a safe place to logout at. Some people like to logout in the middle of trees or bushes. Avoid logging out in high traffic areas, especially near airfields as you're more likely to get shot. If you're not comfortable playing on big servers try a lower pop server instead. Your character and current gear remains persistent across all public servers. Fists aren't recommended for dealing with zombies if you're an inexperienced player. Fire axes and guns are a one hit kill. If you have no weapon run...and not towards a house you're trying to loot because they'll just follow you there too.If you have a standard melee weapon common methods to kill them include strafing or charging at them an swinging as you run by (zombie jousting) avoiding the timing on their attacks. As far as hooking up with friends you'll have to take the ten toe express but you can use external communication programs like teamspeak, mumble! steam chat, to coordinate. If you need more help I wrote a walk through/survivor's guide for players new to DayZ. Link is in my sig, should help you get started. Edited January 12, 2014 by NeedsFoodBadly
-Gews- 7443 Posted January 12, 2014 For zombies you need to get off their line of attack and punch them in the side of the head. They'll fall down and then you punch them in the head some more. When they stand up they'll just fall right back down again.
whothehellishe 81 Posted January 12, 2014 Aye and a couple more tips, zombie lying face up=dead, zombie lying faced down=not dead, first observe then make contact with survivors, run always in the tree line, crouching is almost silent, avoid the coast, always drink till u get full. Try to be friendly with people cause thats where the fun is but still, dont trust anyone, and please dont combat log. Happy surviving. :)
MillionsTx 0 Posted January 12, 2014 (edited) Thanks for all the very quick replies :) Just going to have a bacon butty and a brew then get on it! What is TeamSpeak/Mumble? I assume this is what lets me talk to other players? Is it not possible to talk to people without them? I am playing on my laptop so i may get my wireless keyboard and mouse out so i actually have a mouse rather than a touchpad to play. So regardless of what server i log on to my character will be the same as i left it? And each server is the exact same map just with different players obviously? Thanks again and sorry for the basic questions! Whats combat logging? Why avoid the coast and airfields? Edited January 12, 2014 by MillionsTx
whothehellishe 81 Posted January 12, 2014 Yes those progs use less bandwidth compared to for example skype and they are voice activated, you can use in game voip but it has limited range.Yes for the log in/log out, coast are the spawns where bandits without honor come to snipe fresh spawns. Forget combat logging, no need to know really, its for people without pants. ;)

Good choice on the bacon butty ;) I would not avoid airfields as they tend ot have good loot, the coast is often patrolled by bandits and new players/ arguably they are both as dangerous as each other, stay inland and you'll meet less people
MillionsTx 0 Posted January 12, 2014 It was a very good butty! Just looking into teamspeak/mumble now, it appears you have to pay for teamspeak?
MillionsTx 0 Posted January 12, 2014 Okay so i now have mumble! Its set up but unfortunately the only mic that will work is the internal mic as my other head sets have microphone/headphones combined into a three pole jack and i think my mic input on the laptop requires a mono jack :'( So i am setting up my wireless keyboard and mouse so i don't have to listen to every keystroke i make! PiLLZ 55 Posted January 12, 2014 heres a few things ive learned, there are night servers and day servers, you might be spawning in to a night server and not seeing you char cause its pitch black, you will usually spawn 2 locations, in both cases if you run by the water and its on your left hand side you are running west, double tap W to sprint and outrun zombies, look for supplies in buildings, shirts pants book bags food and water, also look for an axe, tab key brings up the inventory, small buildings ususaly don't have much good in them, map pieces are ususaly found in gas stations, there is no marker and you don't get a full map, read town signs so you can orient yourself, dayzmap.com for reference purpose, there is no player indicator so you have to learn to read direction and use map as you would in real life, if you ever get hurt and the screen turns blurry go to options while in game and hit the visuals settings it will take the blurr away, if youre colors look washed out it means you lost some blood or might be sick, don't eat rotten food, screw driver or a can opener will open canned food, tear shirts in to rags. Don't trust anyone, most will kill you on sight. and don't be afraid to die, cause you will a lot and use empty servers that way you can gather supplies Add me on steam if you like I will give you some tipsSteam SN: Aurvakis
TheWeedMan 132 Posted January 13, 2014 Mumble and Teamspeak will only work for you if you have a group of friends and a Teamspeak or Mumble Server to join. You can use voicechat ingame to communicate directly to others. And yeah your character will always be the same on every server...unless you die. Also note that this is not a game yet, its the alpha release of a game to be so character and server wipes do happen....dont get too attached to your gear (Golden Rule of DayZ). MillionsTx 0 Posted January 13, 2014 You saw it on TV? Just our of interest, where did you see it?The channel 'Ginx'. We have Virgin Media and this channel popped up a couple of months back called Ginx in the upper 200s (286 iirc). Its purely a gaming channel. I popped the tv on and it was mid review, me and my pal assumed it was going to be a PS4/XBO game and it looked terrifying! We only saw about 30s of game play followed by an interview with the game producer. Next thing i am having a meeting with my accountant who said he is going picking up a brand new gaming laptop mainly to play Dayz, i then found out it was on steam so promptly dld it and now here i am! Just found the url for you... its very original... www.ginx.tv
