Server Pricing

Recommended Posts

Why is it so expensive (server prices). It's a little over $2 a slot, I would love to buy a server and set it up (as would most of my bf4 clan) but not for 68$ a month from a company out of Europe with a nearly un-navigable website.

Does anyone know if/when server prices won't be so ridiculous?

editing my math... clearly "very nearly $2 a slot" would be less than/equal to 60... and now I'm very aware that it's time for me to actually sleep... D@^^^^!T Day-Z.

Yeah I actually thought it'd be the other way round if i'm honest.
Cheaper servers during alpha/beta due to the fact that bugs will be present in the game, affecting your overall experience. Then when everything's ironed out increased the price.

Supply and demand

Companies know that some people will pay through the nose for their own server and they have set the price point for maximum profit.

You will find that prices will probably fall once private hives come out and fall a bit more after the final release as there will be a bigger market

Business 101.

Arma 2 and 3 are both very close to 1$ a slot... dayz sa is double that. Kinda makes me think the full release servers will be even more.I'd get $2 a slot if I got any sort of real server options, but not this way.

Think when the full release comes out more hosts will be able to host DayZ SA and will need to compete with each other and drop prices, or people will go for their own dedicated servers.

Not so much the last part. We have at least 9 of us and 2 or 3 more (at least) who will join once vehicles and bases/storage are in... Would rather be on our own server, because believe it or not, 9-12 clan mates working together - even though we generally play bandit hunters/heros - is probably not what most admins want on their server. Was mostly thinking ahead, with prices as they are and such limited server options I don't want one now. But when the game is closer to finished I would much rather be investing time in a server and building bases/whatever on a server where me or my clan mates have no risk of being banned after 100 hours or so of looting/building because one of us shot a badmin or something stupid and lose all of that time. Farming is mostly a by product of trying to seed a server, we tried to jump start a pub in bf4... it wrecked my stats (kpm, accuracy) but I ended up leveling ridiculously fast because EA/Dice gave out crap options for seeding (240 sec maximum idle time...). Although none of what I'm saying matters anyway, I'm sure you are already certain that my plan is to lock the server, farm the crap out of it, then raid other servers anyway...  ;)

I always believe in human sanity.

So no, I dont think you would do that.

But it happens in the last weeks^^

Well. I think the server pricing is just so high because providers just understand that they can "farm the crap out of players" that want to host too.

There is no other way and they make their profit ;)

I guess prices will drop after a while.

Ask rocket or the dayz staff

They have no control over what server hosts charge for their servers.  Which is why the current set-up for hosting a server is complete bullshit.  Hopefully with the upcoming changes players will be able to host their own servers, or at least be able to rent their own dedicated server and host it themselves, instead of through a bullshit third-party who has a complete monopoly on who and how much you can host a DayZ server for.

Which really just makes Rocket, Bohemia, and co. look like a bunch of twats.  How they thought this would be a good idea over biting the bullet and spending maybe even 1,000,000 out of the 30,000,000+ they've already made to host their own servers, out of their pocket, is beyond me.  Instead they thought it'd be better for us, the playerbase, to foot the bill.

Why do you people always think they have 30 million in the bank atm? I know they have some amount of profit laying around but don't it comes near that 30 million.

If a store owner sells a tv for 300 euro's he didn't make a 300 euro profit, even steam already takes a huge cut from those sells.

I would say its a good idea to charge the prices that are currently on offer, to simply discourage

people buying server to do what the hell they want to do.

Look at all the admin abuse that's being posted in these forums at the moment.

Rocket has already said. " Don't Buy the Game" simply because it is still in early stages.

Those that do rent servers should understand this and do there best to bug report and so should the players

instead of abusing the exploits, This to better help the game progress. Instead of helping them selves, help the game

progress to be what it is designed to be. Bug report instead of using the bugs to your advantage to get one over on

your follow players.

Not being funny but the DayZ mod is still better than the standalone and if I have to go further a field.

Rust which is also in alpha wipes the floor with the standalone.

I feel at the moment the prices of servers are justified, untill the game progresses more.

I wouldn't play the mod again if you paid me a salary.

Rust is crust, a game for kids. Looks like complete shit to me.

High server prices for something in Alpha state is justified? Economics would actually suggest a price-point that's 60% less of current valuation.

Look at all the servers that have gone awol. Don't join or be kicked, private, pve, etc---the list goes on and on. I see them everyday and zero policing. Your out of your mind, point blank.
