Recommended Posts

This might sound like a stupid question but I thought id ask. Will I get access to the PS4 version when it goes live?

Im pretty SURE you will but to be honest id rather play on Xbox one but if it dosnt come i wont be sad i have it for PC already anyways.

Well, the PS4 would be more than capable of running DayZ SA from its specs and judging from the fact that Planetside 2, War Thunder and Elder Scrolls Online are all planned for it, obviously the scale of Chernarus would not be an issue.

Would not be an issue. Yes, it sure would. PS4 is not that fast a PC (calling it that for comparison's sake) and would not be able to handle DayZ in its current form. It would have to be severely dumbed down. I doubt it will ever happen tbh

Dean said they'ed CONSIDER porting it consoles if sales were good

Sure. In the same sense, I would CONSIDER having sex with Scarlett Johansson if she would agree.

I don't want to crush any dreams, but I think there's about a 0.01% chance we will ever see DayZ on another platform.

SA will never make it to PS4

It would take a fooking miracle to port something based off ARMA onto shitty console specs.

-and if it did I would not want to see how bad the game had to be dumbed down

Funny thing is, it's usually a game released on ps4 or xbox that makes it to pc... meaning your pc version of cod or bf is no better than what you get on the console... Shame right?

However, yes with this game it would have to be diluted a bit.. But then the ps4 and xbox1 aren't really much in the way of slouches, though no match for a monster pc... You also need to keep in mind that pc games are developed by a min and max spec.. They aren't just going to put out a game for only people who paid 3grand for a custom pc. Thats to narrow of a market for any dev bro..

Has anyone ever got a free copy of Battlefield/CoD/etc. just because they bought it for PC?  Generally, no.  Buying a PC or console version of a game doesn't entitle you to a free copy of it on different platforms, unless there is a specifically stated promotion for that.

As far as a console version of DayZ, it's already been addressed many times.  Rocket talked about it as a possibility.  There have been no official announcements of development beginning for a console version of DayZ and I wouldn't hold your breath on that.

I'm a software engineer on a major franchise that has a history on both PC and consoles.  There is *zero* chance of any value purchased in PC, XBoxOne, or PS4 applying to another platform.  This isn't due to the developer.  It's because Microsoft and Sony want their cut for another purchase of a game on their platform.  PC development is very cost effective.  Console development has licensing and contract regulations, along with certification fees deep into 5 figures for each patch that makes them not cost effective for smaller developers.  If you can't tell, I'm not a fan of the console development process due to MS/Sony policies in comparison to PC development.

Getting it free for PS4 by buying PC, like everyone before me, no.

Having it on PS4 though, is unlikely, and if it does come, will not be for a long time.

DayZ won't be done for ~2-3 years.

Porting it to console would take even longer.

So if you're waiting for a PS4 version expect it in 4-5 years, if ever.

Optimizing DayZ for PCs is going to take a lot of work, because even great PCs have trouble running it.

So porting it to inferior hardware will hit it even harder. (This probably won't be an issue when the game is done, but you never know)

Also, if you've played DayZ or Arma 2 you'll know that almost every key is a command, you use the entire keyboard when playing.

Getting those controls over to a controller with a dozen buttons is going to require a lot of creativity or a lot of dumbing down, either way, it won't be good.

TL;DR

Don't expect it to come to PS4 within the next 3-4 years if ever.
