DayZ Mod content vs. DayZ SA content

Recommended Posts

This is more of a question more than anything.

As most of you know the mod is absolutely booming with content (Base building, trading areas etc etc.) so much so that i'm wondering if the SA will be able to size it up.

Will we see near the same level of content and depth in the SA as we see in the mod today? (Content wise, i'm talking strictly from a content point of view, not graphics, animations etc etc.)

I know each mod doesn't have the same amount or type of content available in each one as well.

I'm not too big on game design so some re-assurance would be nice.

Most of that content in the mod is not from dayz mod itself but outside modders.

Stand alone will flourish when modders can begin to tinker with it.

In every single pc game modders always offer a better product than the actual vanilla retail game does.

well, do some research. I can say after doing some myself I have discovered a lot of the content and plans that "Rocket" and his team of developers have in-store for the game! Eventually I'm sure there will be base building, but it has also been said that modding will be a possibility in the later state of the game. We saw in "Arma 3" in beta stage people were starting to release new mods and customization was added to the game. I'm sure the developers will find some way to implement modding and I know that they are willing to see player responses and see what people think they should add

well, do some research.

This is my research, no need to offend me or insult.

I feel this inquiry is worth a thread , not just a "Uze de surch bar scrub" type of research endeavor..

I've watched a lot of dev interviews and other blogs on content, but not since release have i looked into this in particular. I've been too busy playing! lol

I hate to be Debbie Downer on you guys, but they weren't making money off a mod, like they would a game. Stand alone is a money grab, period. It will take this game 2+ years JUST TO ADD IN WHAT IT ALREADY HAD, then start moving forward. Maybe. Or since they have made millions, they will open the modding up- let others do the work for them... And let all the easymode hackers take over the game. Game dies, they still driving nice ass cars.

These were modders, just ordinary dudes with little to no skill in programming. Now they have money and couldnt give two shits about Dayz. Its their 9 to 5 and for them its not about the players, its about the potential buyers.

Just look at the build youre playing in Stand Alone. Seriously. That was like 8 years old when the mod was being tested. Its the same exact thing, roflmaoooooo. So you guys went out for breakfast, paid for it, then cooked it yourselves in frustration.

No loot, no vehicles, no bases, rubberbanding combat, lag, server issues, glitches... Yet there are still weirdos playing this game 24/7. WOW.

SA != MOD. MOD !=SA.

They are different and a comparison of features between the two is no different from comparing the features of CoD vs. BF.

Lol, slow clap for the flame.

Rocket worked for Bohemia when the mod was created and it generated a huge amount of sales for Arma 2, so it is inaccurate to say it was not generating any income for the company. I also have to laugh at children (or adults with the mind of a child) who somehow think making money for work is a sin. Unless you plan on never receiving compensation for your work you have no room to talk. Come up with a good idea that almost a million people will buy within a month and maybe you can have dat DayZ lambo money. Most likely you will spend your life whining that other people have the ability to make money through hard work while you feel entitled to also share in that wealth without having to do the actual work.

To the OP, yea there will be official content added but as far as the direction of that content it still remains somewhat up in the air. They have spoken about base building, tons of items/weapons, and of course completely redone vehicles, but the other content that comes in will most likely have to do with crafting and a deeper medical system. If modding is allowed you will see diversity in the SA just like you did with all the various mods of the mod. So my best bet would be the SA will eventually enjoy a good amount of content, but only time will tell how much diversity is allowed through modding.

I don't see why not. The mod was extremely barebones when it came out in March or April 2012. New stuff came out over time. It's a given that you'll see something very similar with the SA. Very barebones in the beginning (even moreso than the mod IMO), but over time it'll evolve and grow.

I hate to be Debbie Downer on you guys, but ...

No you don't! You came here and made this post specifically to ram your arse-backwards ideas down our throats. At least have the balls to be honest about it! There is no conspiracy here. BI, Rocket, and the rest of the dev team have been and are upfront about the problems with the current alpha and the ongoing issues that we are and will have to face. Get over it.

Stand alone is a money grab, period.

No. It's. Not. The money for game development has to come from somewhere. It came from us, and we were more than willing to clamber over each othere to give it to them.

It will take this game 2+ years JUST TO ADD IN WHAT IT ALREADY HAD, then start moving forward. Maybe.

Yes. Maybe. If we're very, very lucky. And they have agreed to take us on this rollercoaster ride with them. Remember that. We agreed to the terms and conditions at the door as we came in. Stop your bitching and whining, enjoy the ride with us, or get out of the line!

Or since they have made millions, they will open the modding up- let others do the work for them... And let all the easymode hackers take over the game. Game dies, they still driving nice ass cars.

They've made millions? I'm not personally made privvy to the commercial contracts of Steam, BI or Rocket and the devs, but I'm sure that they haven't personally been singed over any amount of millions. They won't be doing this for love, and will be pulling down a decent salary but they are entitled to make a living at what they do. Oh, and the bit about opening it up to modding; that's a definate. It's in the roadmap. But from there, the rest of that paragraph is just BS on your part.

Oh, and if the game dies, they're in the same boat as anyone else whose job disappears. There is no gravy train. The money isn't personally theirs. There's no guaranteed 'bigger and better' things for them to move on to. So you can bet they are going to try their hardest to make this endeavour a success. They've got partners, children, pets relying on them to do so.

These were modders, just ordinary dudes with little to no skill in programming.

First of all, your characterisation of modders as 'just ordinary dudes with little to no skill in programming'. You need to be slapped, repeatedly and hard! Yes we may be just ordinary dudes, and thank you for appreciating that, but I have never met a modder who hasn't got a titanic amout of skill in programming. They are able to do many of the things that people are paid to do programming wise, only they give away therir skills and code to the community for free, at a higher level than is required, and with turn around times that stagger credulity. But, get this: The DayZ mod was completely thought up, visualised and implemented by '...ordinary dudes with little to no skill in programming'. Yep. You got us there.

Now they have money and couldnt give two shits about Dayz. Its their 9 to 5 and for them its not about the players, its about the potential buyers.

Completely arses-backwards. What is really the case, now, is that they have the security of the money, they don't have to rely on future sales to fund the ongoing development, so now it can be all about the players. We're not going to get it all our own way, of course, but it's definately not only about future potential buyers. And, TBH, all the potential buyers who give a shit are already here, Just take a look around you. See. There's almost a million of us! Minus you, of course, but that's seriously no loss.

Just look at the build youre playing in Stand Alone. Seriously. That was like 8 years old when the mod was being tested. Its the same exact thing, roflmaoooooo. So you guys went out for breakfast, paid for it, then cooked it yourselves in frustration.

So. We got the game that they promised us: bugs and other problems included. And if you want to go with the breakfast metaphor, we aren't cooking it ourselves, we're simply waiting for the chef to get our order perfect. We'll have to send it back to the kitchen a few times, but we have that time, and the chef will eventually get it right. So what if it takes 2 years or longer. We trust the chef.

No loot, no vehicles, no bases, rubberbanding combat, lag, server issues, glitches... Yet there are still weirdos playing this game 24/7. WOW.

All known issues. All on the roadmap. 24/7 is a luxury. RL and real jobs, just like Rocket and the other devs. WOW!

Sorry everyone, for feeding the troll, but it's one of those days where I just have to explode.

No apologies needed!!! I appreciate the effort to respond to the ignorance and shut it down, for i do my best not to.

We trust the chef, chef knows best. Chef knows all.

I'm kinda worried about it too. Why even buy SA if it doesn't have more features than the mod and it's also bugged as fuck. I don't understand one thing - aren't they building SA on top of Arma 3? If that's the case what's the deal with all the desyncs and lack of optimizaiton, is Arma 3 a pile of goo in that department too?

Confirmed Features:

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/156129-confirmed-upcoming-features-for-dayz/

Additionally, the devs have stated they will be finishing their development roadmap for DayZ SA mid-January so hopefully the playerbase will also be able to see the roadmap later this month as well.

Think of DayZ as the ultimate sandwich, the brainchild of an amazing chef. The alpha version of this is very plain, basically rye bread, butter and mustard. Beta will include the meat and cheeses. Release will have all the amazing spices and relishes that turn a great sandwich into an amazing sandwich. MANY things are going to be added, this is just the basic taste to get the tastebuds going as the chef and his team are still experimenting with and testing the ingredients.
