Player running from zombies, shot and goes down, zombies hit him and kill him, is that death attributed to the shooter or to the zombies?

I ask because I shot a guy running across the airfield at me, and he went down then proceeded to shoot at zombies after him. When he died I got credit, but couldn't tell if it was result of bleeding out from my shot or zombie hits (he was swarmed by them). Just curious if there is any solid knowledge of how that works.

Killing blow determines who kill is awarded too. To answer your question, the zed would be awarded the kill.
