Weapon selection

Recommended Posts

Just a quick idea/thought i had.

Why is it that, when the game is based in the old soviet block, why there is even an M4 in the game? surely the first automatic weapon they should have put in would be an AK variant?

I understand that the Mosin is Russian, but as Rocket is pushing realism and immersion, I find it kind of immersion breaking, when you have Russian signs, Russian towns etc, but American weapons?

The FNX45 should have been a TT-30 (Tokarov)

The Magnum and .357 should have been the Nagant M1895

Maybe its due to being Alpha, but this smacks of pandering to Americans, that's all I can say as i haven't come across a weapons list of what they are planning to put in.

The AK, SKS, and .22 Ruger (I think its a ruger) are in the game but not finished. Also, those weapons are really just placeholders.

There's only one reason they put the Python in the game and that's because certain people want to pretend to be Rick Grimes.

There is lore and story behind it.

This is fictional scenerio and this area were under occupation of USA (and Europe?), so their soldiers left many americans weapons etc. behind.

There it is again, the .22 Ruger is an American weapon (if it is a ruger), where did you get your info by the way? I'd be interested to give it a read.

Well said, this isn't the walking dead, there are plenty of walking dead games, go play them.

Where do you find the lore and story? but like I said, even if it is law, its pandering to americans, why isn't the SA80 (British) in the game then? As Americans usually don't do stuff without us British as well, seems a bit one sided

SA80 was in DayZ mod, so expect it be in standalone too.

I hope so, and not with a holo or an Acog either, I want a SUSAT added to the game! just realized, pretty much all the attachments are American as well, go figure

In DayZ mod you had SA80 with all kinds of attachments, holo, acog, susat all that stuff.

the only SUSAT I came across in the mod was one that I manually added into the loot tables when I hosted a server for my clan, never found one otherwise, always HOLO or ACOG.

1. The British weren't in Chernarus, the Americans were.

2. They wanted to test the attachment system and the M4A1 has the most attachments

3. The M4A1 was ready first

4. Certain weapons have been chosen without regard for realism or plausibility

Import weapons, abandoned NATO bases from 2008 wich contain these weapons? (The Chernarussian war between US and Russia)

But I that the standalone, was just that, STANDALONE, nothing to do with the arma franchise?

most weapons have a rail interface system, you think that you can't put a flash light on an AK thats got a RIS on it?

but thats what I'm talking about WHY the M4?

yeah, I understand the randomness of the weapons being chosen, but considering Rocket harps on about realism and immersion all the time, then he goes and puts in an american weapon rather than a russian, which would be more common, even with an American occupation?

Since when did the standalone have anything at all to do with arma other than place names? i thought the standalone was what its name implies

There is no other "lore". That's what people are talking about when they say "lore". Whether or not they stick with it is up to Rocket and co.

Rocket on realism:

They have an AK seemingly mostly ready to go and perhaps it will replace the M4. Or not...

the AK will come^^

(@ least there is a file named "ak-74" in the gamefiles)

Look up Arma 2 and read the story line behind that game. This takes place in the same place at some point after that scenario. The US Marines were there and they always do stuff without Brits. Even when no war is going on they have two MEUs (Marine Expeditionary Units) traveling the world at all times, no Brits on board or in site.

As for why the M4. Because, as Rocket said, it is the most modular firearm in the game and is the most difficult to implement, so they wanted to start with that to get a good test run going.

Even with that authenticity would have the AK first, then the M4, after say the AKS, AKM, SKS etc.

Still seems a bit stupid to me to have a SA game, but relating back to another game, I understand that Rocket aims to have a backstory in the game, as well as more info about the 'virus' or whatever, but still . . .

Read my post, that is why they chose the M4 first. (I hate being the guy to say this but...) This is ALPHA. They need to TEST things.

Yes, i understand that its alpha, but do you honestly think that the M4 is the only modular weapon in the world? the only one that has a rail interface system (RIS)?

They could have quite easily put in the AK12 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AK-12) in place of the M4. It is fully modular that you can put anything you want onto. They could have easily tested it with that rather than an American weapon.

I didn't say the world, I said the game and that is a quote from Rocket. If you don't like it then get in touch with him and tell him how dumb he is lol.

Your question was answered, if you don't like the answer I can't help you.

Well, I've always said that Rocket wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but whatever, seems the only answer that you get is that the game is in alpha.

Have a good day.

They made M4 first, because it was a good platform to test this modular system. There isn't even a final word that it will stay in the game, as we do not know the list of weapon as the game launches. I agree that M4 is a little out of place, atleast it should be semi version, but at this time, it is only a testing platform.

And what comes to "ruger being american"-argument; It is one of the most widely used .22 rifles there is. So maybe somebody in chernarus bought one? I'm from Finland, and i own Benelli Nova, american gun. Believe it or not, we don't only have weapons by Sako or Valmet. So why there wouldn't be a american weapon in eastern europe?

I Agree with you on the point that AK should have been the first, as i love that weapon. Mainly because it is the only AR i've ever used, and quite possibly the only one i will ever use.

e: AK-74, SKS, Ruger 10/22 and doublebarreled shotgun (normal and sawed off) are confirmed weapons at this state.
