bad_mojo (DayZ) 1204 Posted January 10, 2014 Do you ever server hop?
Mcleane 24 Posted January 10, 2014 Never I can see why people do this but they are playing the game for all the wrong reasons as Chernaraus is such a big place there is always loot and never any need to exploit the game to get more.
gray-z@hotmail.co.uk 84 Posted January 10, 2014 Depends on your interpretation. I'll change server if the population goes way down as it does on EU servers late at night (Especially the 3PP:OFF ones) but I also don't play exclusively on any one server. Now if your definition is that where you jump on a server, loot an area, then move to another server to do the same, so on and so on then no I don't do that either. I'm guessing that you are meaning the latter so my answer is no but I would've changed the Title to - Do you Server Hop to Loot Farm - or something like that.
Zeet. 101 Posted January 10, 2014 Only time I ever hop on a different server, is if there is a reset about to happen too the server I'm on, or if the server I'm on is about to get dark. Can't play in that black and whiteness.
Brofessional 9 Posted January 10, 2014 Part of the problem is the fact that loot doesn't respawn yet, coupled with there being no vehicles. If you go to loot some place and it's already been picked clean, the only options are:A. Wait for server restart, could take hoursB. Hike to another location, can take up to an hour, requires supplies, and there's a chance that location will have been picked clean tooC. Server hop
CyberVillain (DayZ) 17 Posted January 10, 2014 I server hop for loot but I would never do it to flank people

Server hopB is kinda the point of the game and the reason why they're experimenting with no loot respawn system in the first place. Is the game only fun with guaranteed loot at the same location every time?
Zeet. 101 Posted January 10, 2014 (edited) B. Hike to another location, can take up to an hour, requires supplies, and there's a chance that location will have been picked clean too I never even thought of this. Having to server hop because all the loot is gone and your character doesn't have enough supplies to live without hopping. This would really only be a problem for fresh spawns. Which would be a death sentence if they are starving or extremely thirsty. Dieing to hunger is embarrassing. Edited January 10, 2014 by Zeet.
frosti 2165 Posted January 10, 2014 Dieing to hunger is embarrassing. I would like hunger to be real danger, on equal level to bandits. That would make game more survival and not only pvp.
philbottle 430 Posted January 10, 2014 If I haven't enough to eat and the town is looted I may starve and die. That's the point of the game. Survival. Server hopping for loot is pretty weak.
lauri7x3 100 Posted January 10, 2014 i only server hop when im sniping and no ones there (if u even call that "hop"). never for loot or flank
Element47 2480 Posted January 10, 2014 i hop if the server i joined is pitch-black. threw my light away a few days ago, and bumping into objects constantly is kinda.. underwhelming.
Zeet. 101 Posted January 10, 2014 I would like hunger to be real danger, on equal level to bandits. That would make game more survival and not only pvp. Problem is you can find food everywhere. And when they add huntable eatable animals. Even more food. If I haven't enough to eat and the town is looted I may starve and die. That's the point of the game. Survival. Server hopping for loot is pretty weak. Exactly. I think they might have to change up the loot system a bit in order to stop hopping for gear.
Crakka 44 Posted January 10, 2014 I would like hunger to be real danger, on equal level to bandits. That would make game more survival and not only pvp.crying about pvp lol. it must be really fun to hide from zombies the entire time you play
bad_mojo (DayZ) 1204 Posted January 10, 2014 (edited) Asking for the PvE elements to become as deadly as the bandits is certainly not crying about pvp. The fuck you smokin? Edited January 10, 2014 by bad_mojo
Jezza93 44 Posted January 10, 2014 I've done it twice, the first time I randomly died when I'd gotten my perfect gear from hopping, the second time I ended up executed with a bullet to the back of the head, karma has told me it is a bad thing to do.
Vitols 3 Posted January 10, 2014 I' ve tried it, first hour was fun...now i just stick to one server. And i don't care if there is 40 or 5 people on it.
razgriz93@gmail.com 228 Posted January 10, 2014 Only when population drops under 5 people.I prefer servers with 15-20 players on.
Mos1ey 6301 Posted January 10, 2014 crying about pvp lol. it must be really fun to hide from zombies the entire time you play I don't see any tears... You're the one pushing your playstyle as the only way to play. Live and let live please.
Electi 149 Posted January 10, 2014 I think you will do it after you tryed to visit base with fire-weapon and you can't even made a 3 steps on it (Balota) because some campers just sit there with tons of food/water/ammo so i have no idea wtf should i do with my axe when of all ppl what i meet is A)Naked because just spawned and i can rape them by my fists = no problemB)Rambos with guns, that rapidly shoot you in your face when you walk to next corner and they do not even think about how much ammo they will left, kill on sight here tooSo you must A)Be ratte and chop-chop those "fathers"B)Loopi can't use A because they always run like ostrich and turn their heads on 360 every 5 secs what make you impossible to make him a surprise
Qu1n 140 Posted January 10, 2014 (edited) I don't server hop but I must admit when my clan isn't around I tend to go for low pop servers and go exploring the map. I'll go high pop and pvp when I have my clan to hand and we can play tactically. edit - To clarify, low pop to me is ~10-15 people. Less than that is pointless. Egoballer06 1 Posted January 10, 2014 I do but for many different reasons. In the beginning it was to find a daytime server. Then a couple of times for loot or just to explore without having to worry about KoSing. Now I am playing with 5-6 people and it happens mostly because we either can't remember what server we were on before (someone doesn't favorite) or someone is having a problem with that current server. meshcarver 154 Posted January 10, 2014 (edited) I play to experience DAYZ to its full potential, to have an experience, not to "win" as such. You get the most out of this game by immersing yourself in its atmosphere and lore, by not using exploits like gamma at night etc, to gain an advantage.Server hopping is just another crutch for the weak, insecure and inferior player who looks to find only to easy ways to get ahead and convince him/herself that they are top dog, when in fact the opposite is true... Less is more.I will even run naked through the woods of Chernarus at night with a torch on and no weapon if it means indulging in a fantastic fantasy that will provide entertainment and escapism. I pity people who cannot see the woods for the trees of Chernarus, as they are missing the point of what makes this game so great...(Hehe... Bring it on...) ;) Edited January 10, 2014 by meshcarver
WARPIG_ 18 Posted January 10, 2014 (edited) Rarely. I preffer to pick a good server and stick with it most of the time, tough there are a few things that sometimes make me hop: I usually server hop when... ...server loot is severely scarce and I'm short on time to play. ...I respawn, so I can enjoy my character's initial struggle (one of the best parts of the game, if you ask me). ...I make my way to some really far location and there is nothing there. In these cases sometimes I try another server, but I never hop twice. I never server hop to... ...farm tons of weapons, attachments, ammo and gear * ...get an advantage in a gunfight ** * People who do that, in my opinion, aren't playing DayZ properly. They are forcing a workaround to make it more like a CoD/BF experience (lots of weapons and ammo in the shortest time possible).** People who do that, in my opinion, are pussies.
