My setup is right on or just below min. reqs. and it plays fine :)

Recommended Posts

My setup is my brothers old computer, which not that long ago was a beast of a machine! It was a crowning achievement in gaming, and today, probably wouldn't even sell for 100USD.

Windows XP
3gb ram (the 4th malfunctioned)

2.13ghz dual core

Geforce 8800 GTS (I guess, this is what's holding it all together)

17" TFT screen (the most painfull part of the setup)

Now I crash every 60 minutes of gametime in Dayz, which is bearable. If I alt tab to desktop I crash. I have plenty of freezes, just plain CTD's and a few blue screen of death's, but all adds to the emersion of the game.. playing on an old beat out, battered and left almost for trash computer is good fun. B)

I can even put most of the config - Video on high settings, and it will play with little lag. I do go for Normal or low settings though, with clouds off and shadows low, and it runs amazingly well.

Only the highrises in Dubky makes me lag hard and long.

Now, its not that I can't afford a new build, I just havent cared to do it.

Dunno If I should get a Desktop or one of those nice Asus ROG gaming laptops..

Here is a screenshot from normal settings on my setup that runs remarkably fine (clouds disabled and shadows low, other is normal) Would I experience significantly better graphics with say a 1500USD setup?

Never buy a laptop unless you use it for school or if you move around a lot!

to be fair looking at your specs there not much better than mine. and i have a nvidia gtx 550 ti thats not much better than yours. i would check the drivers and see about getting the ram dealt with and it should be fine then. also has the GPU been overclocked? if so reduce back to stock and that may fix the issue.

I have an ASUS g73sw

it has turbo to 3.x ghz, which in my opinion is not enough for SA.

However it does "play" "ok"...compared to other peoples desktop setups and reported fps...

you will enjoy a desktop so much more than a laptop.

you will also have the ability to upgrade easily in the future.

if desktop, highly recommend i5 or i7, even get an older 3770k...no need for the 4770k and such.

and i5 2600k is top top tier for gaming still, but i prefer the i7 for multitasking...depends on your budget.

for $50 you can get an antec kuhler 620 (best all in 1 water cooler on the market (for the price))

you can over clock the cpu easily easily to 4.5 ghz and really enjoy yourself on any game.

Provided you have a decent gfx card.

i run a gtx 570 and it more than enough for most games these days on High-Ultra.

But im sure the gtx 6xx are coming down in price now, so that may be a better buy.
