A Few Noob Questions

1. I have no map to start.  I'm assuming I need to find one but until then im lost. Suggestions?

 

2. Night time.  Pitch black and can barely see anything at all, even with the flash light on.  How long does the night cycle last and does it cycle while im offline or only while im logged in?  The darkness combined with no map are making it very tough to do anything.

 

3. Zombies.  I have been able to knock them down with punching them in the head, but not stop or kill them.  My only alternative has been to run away. Can they be killed by punching?

 

4. Being severely hurt.  I jumped off the 2nd floor of a loft and my guy proceeded to moan like a bitch and crawl prone on the ground any time I tried to move.  Will he heal? A rag bandage did not fix it.

 

5. Servers.  I've read about server hopping.  I'm assuming this means you can get stuff in one server, log out and go to another one and keep that stuff, IE weapons, clothing, gear?  Is the game meant to be played by staying in 1 server only or "roaming" multiple? Also - is the max number of human players in a server 40? isn't that a little low?  I'm used to the Eve Online open sandbox experience with thousands online at any time.  Only 40 seems barren.

 

 

Any other suggestions.  Really the map and the utter darkness is my main concern right now.  I look forward to learning everything else myself.

1. There is 1 map, its on all servers.

2. Jump through some servers. Some are night, some are day.

3. Find a melee weapon, more effective.

4. Painkillers.

5. What you assume is correct. Max is still 40 for the time being, will increase as time goes on.

1. There is one map, but there are infinite map items, they must be found looted

2. 24 hour cycle, the server cycles constantly, servers are on varying times

3. I think it is a bug with punching...fireman axe is one hit kill on zombies

4. Painkillers for moaning, morphine or splint for broken leg, that is why you cant stand up. Try not to fall.

1. All servers use the universal map, and you may find it online. In terms of in-game maps, try gas stations by road, they usually have small shop-like houses that you have a high chance to find maps (fragments, not complete).

2. The night/day cycles are like the real ones, 24 hours. A small hint for you: if you want to play in daytime, when searching servers, under the "Map & Version" tag, find those shown "Dayz_auto" (remember, Dayz instead of DayZ, the cap Z means night time)

3. Axes- one hit kill. You can punch zombies till death, it may take some time. Keep hitting the face will prevent it from standing up and hurting you

4. Morphine for broken leg. Try combine wooden sticks + rags/bandages, you then have splints, use them for broken legs (I assume they support your legs)

5. It's okay to switch servers, just don't "server hoping" intentionally (you knew the definition already). So feel free to switch, it's legal and proper (not including server hoping) So far, max population is 40, but they are working on larger servers.

welcome to the game :)

 

1) There is no map in the game, but you can find some (usually in cars). You can also find maps online (if you want to "cheat"). Best is to just play and learn the terrain

 

2) Servers with more ppl in them are usually day so choose those

 

3) I like the firefighter axe

 

4) I think morphine or rope but usually when I take fall damage and cant walk I dont have those, so I'd rather die :)

Thank s for the answers.  I figured the reason my map screen is black is because i had not found an actual map in game yet.  Great tip on the z "Z" being for nightime.

heres a few things i was able to figure out, running towards the water is running south, water on the left hand side you are traveling west, you probably broke a limb by the fall, day night cycle is the same as in the real world, double tap W to run fast and out run zombies, they stop chasing after a while, get an axe only way to kill them. if you keep traveling west by the watter eventualy you are gonna run in to an airfield, look for guns there. ive only been playing for a few hours, so just use your noodle and youll figure stuff out, best of luck
