Spawn Suggestion ( with friends)

Recommended Posts

I get the hardcore aspect of the game, and I love it. However, I do happen to have a suggestion. I'v realized that I can't play the game with less than 2-3 hours of playtime, realistically. Time just flies while playing this game but that's a good thing. When wanting to play with friends, I spend majority of the time trying to get to my friends and I understand that too.

A simple solution, possibly :

Let *NEW* characters of friends( maybe a party) spawn together. If the character is NOT fresh, then none of this applies. So what does that mean? Continue to make the spawn "random" for a fresh character. What happens? It doesn't change any of the realistic run times and allows us to play with friends quicker. Any thoughts? I think this could help with the frustration of newer players to show them around and even be a possible addition long-term. I know it's difficult playing and having a friend who just bought the game not really know his way around. I know I'd respawn/kill myself to start with a friend. I really want this game to progress and I'm actively thinking of ways to make it more enjoyable yet keep the hardcore/realism aspect. Looking forward to hear your thoughts, thanks,

I usuall play the game with just one friend so I would benefit from this idea.

I think you'd get too many 'groups/clans' spawning together though which probably wouldn't be a great idea.

Still, I like the idea if it was limited to one or two people!

Dean is very  big on making sure new players get a sense of isolation, loneliness, hopelessness and frustration in their early hours in the game. You're not supposed to feel safe, comfortable and protected when you're a beachsprout.

If you want to join up and play with your friends, you're going to have to put a little effort into it, and that's okay.

Trust me, after searching for 1-2 hours for your friend, when you finally see them it will be awesome! Much cooler than just appearing right next to them, I promise.

That's probably fine, too. I just like the idea so that we can get towards the gameplay, asap. I am actively trying to get people to play and they wouldn't get it until they spent atleast a couple of hours within the game itself. However, starting with me, I'd be able to show them the ropes.

Generally speaking, this will shouldn't effect the overall gameplay and would probably be a positive thing in the long run. More opinions, guys. :)

I get the whole isolation aspect. What I am trying to get at though is the fact that a lot of times you -need- 2-3 hours of gameplay. I know after the first or second time, I'm over that, and I don't want to spend it searching for my friend only to have him have to log off, or vice versa.

I can see your point, though. I don't want this to effect ACTUAL gameplay. Ultimately, I don't think it does.

However, starting with me, I'd be able to show them the ropes.

Hop on mic and talk them through any problems they're having while you're searching for each other. By the time they find you, they will be experts in the basics and ready to start adventuring!

You just have to understand how important Dean feels the initial experience is, and how much of that relies on the early struggle to get your bearings, get the basics, and get where you want to be.

One of the single most memorable nights I had in the mod was when a new friend joined the game. Four of us were up north putting the finishing touches on a Range Rover, then we were going to drive down and pick my friend up. As we were getting close, we decided to stop for gas. As we did, a ton of zombies were running out of town at us and my friend was getting closer and closer.

For a brief moment the thought flashed into my head "Gee, I sure hope our friend doesn't come up over the ridge while we're shooting all these zombies, there's a chance someone will think he's one of them," so I started to talk and didn't get but "Be careful..." out before I see my buddy come up over the hill in front of me and take like three assault rifle rounds and immediately fall over with broken legs and gunshot wounds.

He didn't die, thankfully. We bandaged him up and drove off to safety but not before laughing until we cried.

Yeah, I totally hear you on this. I wish there was a way for us to figure out a system that allows the more experienced/vet players to just jump into it a little easier. I'll just say this : I got two new friends to play last night and I was all the way in the North Airfield - I literally spent the entire night trying to get to them to only have them die(separetely) 2-3x. It wasn't exactly an enjoyable night for any of us. After hours of running in different directions because I began running east - their start point when they respawned was west. Ultimately, everyone ended up logging off after just hours of just running.

However, I still do understand the hardcore aspect. I don't want to ruin that, which is why I thought this system may allow for the possibility of avoiding all of this while still keeping the true nature of the game. I don't know.. can't have it all, I guess.

DayZ is all about surviving, isolation and being shit-scared of what might be around the next corner. It will be literally impossible having a team/friend/clan spawn system without breaking that. The other thing about DayZ is the sheer scale of it. 250kmdwarfs most other games and any form of warping makes that scale pointless; May as well just play it on some Battlefield maps and have do.

As for vet players jumping straight back into it? Surely the mere fact that they are vet's will mean they'll be able to jump straight in because they'll 1) know exactly where they are when they spawn, 2) know exactly where to go to get the basic loot 3) know where to go from there to get better stuff. Being a vet' means they'll be back up and running far quicker than someone with less experience.

Seems like a fine idea.

as long as its only new spawns and 4 or less people.

and you shouldn't get to choose your spawn location.

That's what I was suggesting. No spawn point - just random and maybe even make it less than or equal to 3 people. I'm not trying to change any form of gameplay. The fact that we can spawn randomly together SHOULDN'T break any other aspects of the game. In fact, I think it may even make the game a lot more enjoyable by allowing us to quickly get back together to start another adventure. It's not about knowing where I am anymore, it's about the fact that we'll both spawn on opposite ends of the coast and spend majority of our game time just trying to meet each other.

I was just trying to figure out a reasonable way for players to be with each other without taking away from the game. For me, atleast, the game quickly became less about the zeds and more about surviving the other players. I know that us getting to each other is "part" of the game, but it quickly becomes old running for 45 minutes just to meet. Or even worse, one of us dying on the way there as two others meet and the third dying and respawning even further away.

Again, I'm really not looking for a way to break the actual atmosphere of the game because I understand both sides of the arguements.
