I just spawn dead

I know the game is not even in a beta stage so I happily accept its a work in progress but what just happen? I was running through the forest well inland, miles from anywhere or anyone and I see the server disconnect message. No big deal I just try to disconnect by alt-f4 but it didn't work so I just left the server through the UI. Find a new sever and it takes forever to load and then im met with your dead message. My guy was in perfect health and was a very remote area so im not sure what happen. Is this a glitch, bug or what?

 

On a similar subject other times I've log in and found myself on a fresh character on the coast but after server hopping for alittle I get my usual guy back. What happening with that? Yes im new and only be playing for about a week (did play standard arma but) .

Interesting that your first 'go-to' disconnect is Alt+F4.

That being the quickest way to disconnect, it is the most inefficient way, if you're still planning on playing. e.g. why wouldnt you just use the UI to change servers, instead of exiting the game fully, reloading the game and waiting for all that??

Got in the habit of combat log much?

Ha ha. Honest to god i been playing less then a week. No i never combat log because i simply learnt what it was today. I try it out because i wanted to see what the threads were all about.  I was out in the middle of the forest so i didn't see in any harm seeing what everyone was complaining about.

There's been lots of hive issues, some servers not properly white listed to the main hive and whatnot, as well as other.  As a good general rule, find the servers that work for you, and just keep going back to them by either pressing play or finding them in your history.  If you get the "no messaged received for x seconds", that means the server is restarting and it's best to reconnect to that one anyways, for loot.  Just wait for about a minute and you should be good.

Just sad I had a pretty deck out guy with plently of ammo and firepower. It's ok i know the alt-f4 subject was going to be a touchy one. I was just wondering what all the fuss was about over it so i tried it out at a time that i knew wouldn't cause anyone greif. I mention it thinking it may be the reason my guy spawn dead because the devs trying to stop combat logging. Alt+f4 means dead character would be a good way to stop it lol. Anyway think im going to try out the amra mods for awhile until the alpha gets alittle more stable.

I am only speculating, but I think you would have been dead anyway, whether or not you hit alt-f4 is a moot point.  You probably died because of a bug, but I cannot confirm that.  It seems from what I have noticed, when the server restarts there is actually a little bit of a roll-back.  I have literally dropped something :30 secs before the red chain no message received count and log back in panicked to replace it with new loot only to find, it was still in my inventory.  Literally happened yesterday, I set a 300 round ammo box down and started emptying magazines and putting the ammo in the box and disgarding empty mags, my pack space was completely full and the ammo box was not.  I was carrying 4 fnx mags (+1 attached) and I had about 4 coupled stanag and 2 (1 attached) 40 round mags.  I decided to drop the 40 round mags and lose a few fnx mags.  I never use pistol anyway, except when I first found a mag for it.  Anyway I managed to set the box down and empty a few mags and put the ammo in the box on the ground when the server restarted.  I thought I lost about half my ammo, but all those mags were still on me.  Only thing I "lost" was the 30 rounds in the stanag I was trying to pick up when this whole shuffling began.  Also, I have been in the process of opening a gate when server restarts, only to log back in and find I have not even run to the gate yet.

 

I don't know how a short roll-back could have killed you, but maybe you got teleported back to a glitchy spot that was a near miss while you were at the keys.  I have also logged in to a fresh spawn.  It can be a char wipe, occasionally. As suggested above, it might be a server that is not attached to the public hive either the new server or the one you have been playing on.  As much gear as I have right now, it would be slightly relieving to lose it all and start again. Yes, I would still feel a little bummed, but the people on the coast are not going to give me any sympathy and I am kind of bored.  Yesterday, I ran from NE airfield to NW airfield and found some upgrades that I did not even realize I needed.  I hate collecting ammo, but I don't like destroying it either.

The first time I logged in last night when I got home from work I spawned in to a "You are Dead" screen. I exited the game and logged back into the server and I was back alive with all my gear. This happens from time to time.
