Meele system similar to MnB?

Recommended Posts

Alright, that's it. I'm adding in a few sound clip taunts from chivalry to my quickbar for in-game melee fights.

"You smell like a woman!"

Skip to about 1:05 in the video to get a basic overview of what the meele is like in Mount and Blade.

Basicly you choose the attack direction by moving your mouse in the direction you wish to start the attack from. Say you move your mouse to the left as you left-click, starting an attack, you would cock back your meele weapon to the left, preparing a swing, you could either hold your mouse button in this "cocked" position, release the mouse button to swing or right click to cancel the swing.

You would use the mouse direction to similarily prepare overhead attacks and stabs (moving the mouse back)

This system, while having a meele wep equipped, would allow you to also block in all 4 directions, by moving your mouse and pressing the right mouse button.

While having a gun with a bayonet, you could have a button to switch to meele mode, and have two attacks for the bayonet, a high stab and a low stab. .

Mount and blade also has a "momentum" system and weapon weights, meaning that a fast weapon isnt always the best. Say you block a hit from an axe with a crowbar, this would stun you for a little while, not allowing you to immediately spam after the block.

The momentum system is touched upon in the video, basicly it represents the fact that you would do more damage to someone if you were able to swing at them from some distance while they were moving towards you, rather than only being able to swing a short distance, due to them being too close to you. The same principle applies in boxing and fighting sports, punches while grappling on the ground aren`t as effective, since you can`t get any power into the punches.

I`m not saying i want a copy-paste of this system, just throwing some ideas around.

THIS

I was saying this ad nausea in the mod forums, make the melee like M&B and take the player customization from APB, aparently Hall and friends like money, but not enough

Its a no brainer <-pun :) every modern game, should have

Directional Melee combat Warband

Advanced Player customization morphing and conforming clothes APB

Havok Ragdolls or EUPHORIA if you can afford it

I clearly played both.

Timing the parry is damn easy.

Parrying with a sword (not a shield) on M&B requires timing and coordination.

Shields are for pussies who cannot duel with a real weapon. And get promptly smacked by a morningstar.

Enter a duel server, then tell me.

Blocking in Chivalry is both time and place oriented. You can not hold your block indefinetly (like in MnB) It hold only for a short time. There is also a cooldown before you can block again after your block dropped. So, if you block too early because you got feinted/delayed attacked or whatever you will get hit. You must also look at the tip of the enemy´s weapon in order to block, you can not simply right click.

OT Oh, the shields. In MnB they make you swing so damn slower and die to stone hammer overhead spam. OR other fast weapon spams. Shields are crap. /OT

Now, the combat system from Chivalry has no point in the SA, due to the lag/low fps or whatever. The combat system from MnB could work, but there ought to be advanced techniques, otherwise with just 4 attacks and 4 blocks, if two good players meet, the fight would last an eternity. Just as you will never hit a good MnB player with just simple strikes.

Probably over-design anyway, and at this stage of development, pointless.

Bollocks.

On Chivalry you just have to press rmb to block.

Mount and Blade has the best melee system available, imho.

Needs skills. Spamming will only get you killed.

250+ hours on chiv... if you think spamming will get you anywhere, you haven't played against a skilled player.

Chivalry hands down has the best melee system... albeit terrible developers

NoVa here; just eating popcorn watching the M+B vs Chivalry derailed debate.  :D

do we have to fight over MB and chivalry really come on guys and to be honest id be uber happy if dayz melee was half as good as either of them but i doub they will go anywhere near as far with the melee as these games (seeing in those games it was the major part of the game Dayz less so ).

But 1 thing i am sure we all agree on it be nice if they improved melee in Dayz .... 4 directional attack and 4 way directional block as simple as they can do it would just add so much to this feature( first fix desync hit detection then do more lol )

I can imagine the whining over lag and fps-issues, but there`s simply no way around it in any MMO which is based around fast-reaction combat.

Reducing the meele to 4 directional attacks and 4 blocks is fine IMO (maybe a kick or push attack), even though, as someone has mentioned, meele fights between two good players would

last for an eternity. I think that, with this system they should add some kind of feint mechanic also.

I doubt any kind of meele mechanic beyond a very basic one is realistic though, it has always been about gunplay in DayZ.

Did I ever say that? "Lel" (what a retarded meme). You said something false about Chivalry ('Parry is strictly timing based' "Lel") which indicates that you've never actually played the game or that if you did you misunderstood how that mechanic works "Lel".

Now you claim that I said something about how parrying works in M&B which I never did, to which I say "LeL" (cause I'm a 4chan baby).

I don't even browse 4chan. I just like how lel sounds.

I though it was kinda OBVIOUS that you also have to "aim" the block and not just hit the button, otherwise the system would be even worse than it is.

There's no chambering, no feints, no swing-related parry and if you think that IRL holding something in a generic parrying position will block any front-coming attack, well, good luck.

Did 3 years of fencing, I know what I'm talking about.

The melee system of M&B IS, and you can read it around too, way more in-depth than Chivalry's one.

Chivalry's fun. Go in, cut trough people with a 2hander, having jusy to worry about swinging at the right direction.

If I want a real duel I go on M&B.

P.s. Noone but newbies use the stone hammer. And noone by newbies try to parry a downing hammer.

End of OT.

IT.

A system like that would be terrible on the engine DayZ runs on. Laggy and unreliable.
