What's the point in renting a server?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Not trying to sound too sarcastic, but I was looking into buying/renting my own DayZ server and noticed a couple things:

- It is super expensive

- You are not allowed to change anything, really (# players, password, KoS rules, etc.)

I understand and respect that the staff want to maintain a consistent experience and did not make this topic to argue about that. Rather, I am wondering, what incentive is there (if any) for someone to rent their own public server? Am I missing something?

We're hosting servers to provide an experience. We offer a place to be for communities and often enough you will meet people you know from the community when hosting a server.

If you're on your own it's most likely not really worth it, as it's a lot of money and if you don't have a group you're playing with regularly it hardly makes sense.

Give it a bit of time and they will get less expensive. :)
