Public hive, 1 character to play them all.

Private server, 1 character per.

That is all.

oh yeah? and what if the server close or be dead (0/40 players) ? you just have to abandon your full loot player there? hell no

just leave it the way it is of course. One character for all servers

hi,

I would like to see no private hives, they are unstable and don't allow the flexibility that a public one does in terms of player interaction(private you generally get the same people every day) and if it crashes there could be no backup.

You never went to play to well administrated private server, did you?

Downbeans. There are plenty of ways to solve server hopping without fundamentally breaking the game. I don't want my entire life to rely on whether some random pickledick I've never met keeps paying his server rent fees.

seriously your going to call the person who is funding your good time on a server a pickle dick!! i understand why your such a crusader for mental health issues...

Fundamentally breaking the game strange i always played on white listed private servers as it certainly helped with hackers script kiddies and well didnt break the game for me oh but then i donated because i liked the service i enjoyed my time there i wasnt some tight fisted parasite telling people how the game should be..

This is an interesting thought on paper, however this in game would probably be a disaster that could make or break the playerbase.

Ok wait; I'm not following what they mean by this...my suggestion is that your character is on the public hive, in case a server is down, laggy, or shitty. I don't want to not be able to play DayZ because the server I'm stuck with sucks. Private servers = private hive, to prevent getting gear in private then hopping on public.

What exactly does the OP mean by "having one character per server?"

Could go a few ways:

1) You only have one active character at a time that is limited to one server. Changing servers may prompt you - "If you wish to join this server, your character on another server will die." Or similar.

2) You have the possibility of a few active characters on different servers so people can engage in group play with one character and lone wolf with another. Also gives you a work around if a server is full or down.

3) Unlimited number of players (i.e. you could join any server but each server has a discrete character - i.e. if you've never played on that server before, or you're most recent character on that server has died, then you start at a new spawn).

As per the poll.

I know it's not perfect - just exploring the possibility as a way of getting around server-hopping to grab loot in military areas or for ghosting to kill other players.

Characters should be saved on that server only, if you want to move servers you make a new character.

The argument about losing your guy if the server becomes inactive or shuts down is stupid, what about your vehicles/ tents/bases do you want them to hop over with you too?

Here's an idea, don't play on private hives if you don't want to.

Private hives are a must for this game to become better then the mod.

The reason why people have one character across all servers on the public hive is so that you aren't tied to one server. If you had a vehicle, you were tied to the server. It's a trade-off. If you want the car, you must stay on the server. Switching servers meant losing the car. However, maybee my friend only plays on a 1st person server. I then leave the old server and join his. No new character creation needed. I don't know of another anti-serverhopping technique but it can be found. Hell, someone already found a 3rd person exploit fix: zombies/players/loot not visible through 1st person (over walls/around corners) are invisible unless direct line of sight is acquired.

points for being creative...but these threads HAVE TO STOP

missing the key point!

its alpha, stability testing...

Once the devs are happy with stability enough to implement ----- LOOT TIMER there will be less reason to hop, that plus the server hop timer (WHICH I CAN GUARANTEE WILL BE IMPLEMENTED).

We then will no longer have server hopping...

Thanks for this but a few questions/points:

Firstly, how would the loot-timer work? I am intrigued by your guarantee - inside knowledge? Also I don't see how loot timers would work for ghosting - are there any other plans that you know of that are aimed at fixing this? So far in this thread, there have been a few replies along the lines of "That's a dumb idea, there are better ways to fix these problems." However, no one seems to offer up any.

Secondly, yes alpha, stability testing - I get that. Stability is the major reason for alpha, but this is a bug/unwanted feature and it has not been made clear yet how this will be dealt with. Also this is a suggestions forum and I think it's perfectly valid to shoot-the-shit/brainstorm alternative ways of doing things. While this particular suggestion may not please everyone (although 67% of voters like the idea) others may come up with novel ideas that even the devs haven't considered perhaps (my current favorite for this problem is http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/165355-server-jumping-quick-fix/) that do a better job. So I think these kinds of threads are useful (as long as they are creative and don't just mindlessly repeat the same ideas due to a search-button phobia).

Thanks for taking the time to critique - look forward to more...

That is all.

Should be 1 character to play the game...and that's about it...and be persistent across all servers, private or public. Maybe 1 character per map (when they add more maps to the game)
