Buying alpha=full retail game?

My question is if I buy the alpha version on steam, is this essentially the same as buying the completelted game when it is released...if I buy now, will I have to rebuy the game when it is released as a finished product?

No, you won't have to. It is going to get more expensive as it progresses though, so buy it now.

If you buy it now you will get all future updates as automatic free downloads through Steam.

 

No, you would not have to pay twice.

If you buy it on steam you are buying all updates the beta and the full game.
