thequantum 52 Posted January 4, 2014 I've never used a microphone with games before, but I grabbed one I had laying around and plugged it into my computer. I know it works, because I can hear it coming out of my speakers. I try pressing caps lock and turning on direct communication, and the mike symbol comes on, but I don't think it is working. I tried recording a dayz video and speaking into it and it didn't come out on the video. I ran the mike test in the audio config to have it auto adjust the volume and that worked as well, but I guess no one can hear me?

Ventura (DayZ) 0 Posted January 4, 2014 well if you can hear yourself then obviously it is working, but DayZ isnt an open chatroom so to say. only people close to you can hear you.

If you do a recording test outside of the game and you can hear yourself at a reasonable volume then it should be fine in-game. The only indication you're going to get when using your mic is the mic icon and if you get a chance to actually talk to someone and they actually respond instead of just running away or just shooting you. Although, if they just shoot you or run away...don't worry, that's normal. As far as your mic not being recorded in your video recording program, you need to make sure the program is setup correctly. In FRAPS, a popular game recorder you have to check "Record external input" and select your mic device.
colinm9991 196 Posted January 5, 2014 Just make sure your mic is set as default in Control Panel Audio settings, disable the echo or playback in speakers; talk in and see the audio levels in control panels Recording Devices section, turn your microphone gain and boost up also. Once you know it all works, go in game and turn your VON & Microphone up there too, then try it out on some guys. If you're concluding that it's not working because you're shouting "Friendly" but still getting killed, that's not a broken mic...
