Claiming & Clearing Houses

It would be interesting if you could claim a house or structures as a base or storage area & clear it.

Firstly give houses a storage area, same mechanic as tents, style it to look like a cupboard, chest, rack or any like thing.

Secondly, make a deploy-able item to signify a building claim, it can be modeled to look like anything suitable; a sign, post, door, letterbox... anything really. Make it placeable in structures only. Give the item hitpoints, like a vehicle so it must be maintained.

Then make spawns react to the item the same as a player - so that no zeds spawns within a measured radius of it, to simulate that the house/structure has been cleared.

Other items could be added to the structure over time; defenses, hidden storage (eg. hidden basement) etc.

I dont really see the point too this. You would get robbed faster than you could say "Whos shooting in cherno?" and a tent would be a much better option than storing stuff in a building thats in the middle of a zombie infested down. Claming a house wouldnt make the town clear of zombies right?

Yes, claiming would make the house clear of spawning zeds, (not wandering infected) seeing it is the structure that spawns zeds.

The claim mechanism could enable clearing & prevent that structure from being a zed respawn point.

Then chain it together you could reclaim an entire town from zeds by reclaiming each structure (zed respawn point) and clearing wanderers.

But you would need to protect/maintain the claim item to continue that state.

Now if only reclaiming a town had some purpose heh...

Surely you would have to make it. So that ownership was tied to just that 1 server. What would happen about loot spawns that happen in certain buildings? What would happen about ownership on death? Whats to stop server admins taking the best buildings for them or clans?

Yes, per server, same as vehicles. Loot spawns could remain or not. Nothing to stop server admins taking best buildings, or anyone else... all clearing would do is to remove zeds from spawning in or near that structure. And the deployable item that creates the claim & clears the spawn would need to be maintained & protected from others or wandering zeds from other structures.

You could take back a town, & stem the spawning zeds but only as long as the claim item/deployable remains in place with hitpoints.

Just an idea, seeing I read somewhere much earlier about an end game idea about reclaiming & protecting towns as a survivor.

I do like the idea.

but getting raided and robbed is too easy, imo without any form of protection really.

Even if there were a door lock, for example, what's to stop snipers from waiting outside your front door, and shoot you.

I do like the idea, but it's not as "safe" as having a tent outside of the map, or somewhere in-land.

Unless there's a solid form of protection, I don't see how it could be feasible, and knowing how DayZ is set up, there will be 0 protection.

Id like to see a "town clearing" activity where enough people with enough guns could clear out a town and claim it. No zeds spawn until 1 hour after the last person leaves. Then it goes back. But GEAR will also not respawn. So you still need to forrage even if you take over a town!

its not a bad idea, im thinking also u could get a hammer, wooden boards/planks & nails, then reinforce doors and windows from foreign entities. Perhaps destructable ?

This is the idea I was thinking about most. To use a house and the furniture inside to store items instead of the tent. The cupboards for food, under the bed for rifles, the bed nightstand for pistols. You wouldn't need to place a sign on the house as that would attract attention for bandits to come knocking. There wouldn't be a need to stop zombies spawning outside as they could be a defense against intruders. You would need wood to board up windows and reinforce the door against zombie attacks. If you somehow lock yourself out of your own house then you need a crowbar, sledge hammer, or explosives to get back in and of course using these would make a lot of noise and attract zombies.

would be a cool idea, but not to claim whole city's, just few houses, e.g the green houses all around, there are plenty of them, nothing but Z's at it, they could become POH's (player owned houses), to claim a house you could make something like, "clear all the zombies spawned by this building" and have atleast a few thing stored in it, and give the posibility to let other players take it over, this could be done by something like this; the attacker has to spent atleast X amount of time near/in the building, clearing it of zombies, and the house would become "clean" when the owner dies /does not log in/visit within 24hours.

and even so its still quite a hard thing to do, since it would be so obvious and obvious to take over when you're sleeping or at school/work

You would need to find planks to claim a house, larger buildings requiring more planks. And the only way to bust into a building is to use a crowbar( FINALLY, a use! )
