Regarding the current zombie AI

I apologize if this info is in another post, I searched but just couldn't find it.

 

Rocket mentioned having to scrap the zombie AI they had been working on modifying from the mod, as they simply had gotten as far as they could with it the way it was. And starting over from scratch.

 

He also mentioned he'd rather start the alpha without zombies than with horribly broken zombies.

 

 

My question is this:

 

Is the AI we're seeing now, the one they've started from scratch in it's current form, or is it the old improved one temporarily used until the other is finished?

Yup, placeholder and WIP. I guess the next couple months will show how things go, zombie wise

No, it's the new AI system. Keep in mind that this was made in the month leading up to the Standalone release, so it's still a heavy WIP. 

 

Also, keep in mind that the new AI system wasn't necessarily to improve their AI, but to improve server performance. Still, I find the new  zombie AI loads better than the mod already, and for an initial alpha release, that's a good sign.

This is the new AI. The reason why the zombies are clipping through mesh is because the zombies havent been "configured" for those buildings/structures, and will ignore geometry.

 

Go to the Tek Building, the fat, wide one with 5 floors, and you can see the zombies wont clip through the walls their, since that building was "configured".

In rockets twitch streams he talked about this. The current AI is an improvement on the old AI from the mod, but like you said it has limitations.

He mentioned that some time after the alpha release that a totally new AI system will be developed and added.

We are currently experiencing the older limited AI.

 

The reason that they glitch through walls and the old ones from the mod did not is that the AI and a lot of the buildings were modified for the SA.
