Stop changing spawns until....

Loot re-spawns.

 

Why spawn everyone in the same area of the map when the loot doesn't respawn. Elektro is picked dry on almost every server except the night ones because of the spawn change. At least with the Balota spawns we had a chance to get loot and I know it wasn't balanced but now DayZ is a server hopping fest to see what server just restarted.

 

Don't get me wrong, I know this is Alpha and I am really enjoying the chance to test the game. I just find it time consuming to server hop until you can find something useful to help you travel north. I know this feature is coming but I really hope it comes sooner than later. This is a huge missing feature and needed much more than a bayonet opening beans.

DayZ boasts a 230 square kilometer map.  It may surprise you to know there are places and towns besides Elektro and Balota.  If your problem is loot respawns as you claim, then simply join a lower pop server or a server that advertises "restarts every x hours."

 

A fresh spawn can run for miles without dying of thirst or hunger.  Thirst shouldn't even be an issue since there are many ponds, streams and water spigots readily available.

As far as I'm aware, everyone doesn't spawn in the same location or supposed to anyway. The spawns are up and down the East coast, from Nizhnoye to Elekro.

I Can't wait until server hopping is fixed! It's not about how easy you're able to attain gear but to survive until you find the gear you want.

it may surprise you, but loot system and spawn points both are WIP..

 

that said, i actually think that spawning all players on top of each other in picked-dry high-traffic areas might provide valuable data, namely what routes the players take after the most obvious areas are sans loot, and how different spawn locations influnce the map flow

 

full disclaimer: author loves walks on the beach and hiking trips in the hills, and spawning at solnichny was the best experience he had since meeting his wife

Hmm.. I dunno if you actually need the shoreline to be full of loot. I generally just assume they will have been picked pretty clean, grab what couple pieces of food I can, drink myself full at the well and then start the town hop north. 2-3 towns up and you're pretty much set for the real travels north.

The only way they can stop server hopping without pissing off a ton of people is making private hives for servers, if they put a timer for me to switch servers what happens when my server crashs? I have to wait the 1-5minutes? I'd rather just play a different game at that point.

Then you will be playing a different game sir, because server hopping along with combat logging is a plague that WILL be fixed in the near future.

 

If your "Server Crashes" you'll be waiting, who knows how long so I think that point is a bit moot.

You sound so sure of yourself, the only thing there going to do is make private hives. but keep dreaming.

The thing is, that you people who enjoy exploiting(server hopping and such) are the ones dreaming that this issue isn't going to be fixed. Combat logging already has a fix and was taken out before Alpha launch due to not working as intended, it is just a matter of time before it is back in game along with a server hopping fix. This is not the Mod and because it wasn't fixed in that does not mean it isn't possible to fix it in the SA.

 

I used to run a private hive and really, they're not the end all be all fix for everything.

My guess is they are analyzing the way people deal with spawning in these locations with very little loot. Trying to balance it out by pushing the player to their extreme. How does a player react in this situation? What directions are they going? How do players interact with each other? ( The massacre threads being posted are a good example of this )  They will be plotting graphs of player routes while they adjust these spawn locations. It's a lot to do with cause and effect or causality. Causality is a huge foundation for most of DayZ gameplay. 

 

It's difficult to plot out loot spawn locations if they don't have a rough idea of where players are actually traveling. It's quite clever what they are doing. When a server restarts and is full of loot, they can see how players react and where they travel with a bounty of loot. Then they can gain data about how players react when they respawn and there isn't any of this loot left. Where do they go next, what are the next choices they are going to make?

the problem is that people are so stupid and keen to exploit weaknesses in a system, that the route most often taken are the most obvious areas sans loot, and then server hop until they're the most obvious areas with loot. 

 

need to fix server hopping, and i haven't had to use the new spawn system yet, but it sounds to me like people need to get the fuck over the coast, spawning at sol is great, you run to polana, up through gorka and then the entire map is at your feet, i literally PRAY for an east coast spawn. 

 

and i know, "rarrar geared players mowing down newspawns", but i wonder how many people get shot and then take the exact same route after spawning, only to get shot by the exact same sniper for the exact same mistake. frankly if you're going to hang around the coast you're going to die pretty quickly anyway, might as well get it over with, or go inland.

From what I have read and watched, my understanding is that it would be a warning system. So that you won't get banned and have to wait if the server crashes. 

 

My guess would be if you switch between a few servers in X minutes you will get banned for Y mins. Hopefully it increases the more you do it, so if you get banned get back on and do it again the time banned doubles or something.

What is wrong with people and making topics in which they say 'I know it's alpha but...'

 

If you know it is alpha then why can't you accept the fact that the devs are working on it? Making another thread in the long line of threads about loot respawn is not going to make them change their priorities or work any faster.

That's how everyone thinks. And thats how you get killed faster than on a full server. I found that if I joined servers with 20 people or so there are more unlooted buildings around.

My only problem with spawns is the lack of inland spawns other than the Novy Sobor spawn, which is godlike. If I spawned in Msta or Pusta sometime I would be a happy camper. Instead all of the close costal towns are picked dry and I have to run inland for a while before I get anything (which is a little boring).

Venturing inland is always a good idea, but sometimes the entire place has been picked dry. I went to 3 or 4 inland towns on one of my early playthroughs and I found that all the loot except for some clothing or the odd can of sardines had been scavenged.

private hives are bad, please remove them. they ruined the mod, yes they kept it alive, but only through leeching all the life from the actual game, and while i understand that the actual game was very limited in the survival aspects towards the end of it's life, i'm pretty confident that the SA will at least attempt to fully deliver a survival+pvp experience, rather than the "1000 vehicles, spawn with dmr" dogshit you guys want. 

That's the game they're making, if you don't like it, you bought the wrong game. too bad.

you, that is a good idea. they should spread spawns all over the map. it'd be confusing for a new player though lol.

There are many simple ways that by design would stop server hopping. Like More ZOMBIES! ZOMBIES that actually spawn indoors, ZOMBIES that are actually challenging to kill and don't walk through walls. Logging into an area that hasn't been looted would mean death! Then it would also be rewarding to have good gear.

There are many other simple ideas that could improve many aspects of the the game, as well as prevent server hopping.

Just go North the second you spawn. there are PLENTY of towns and houses that are usually untouched becasue every one and there mama spawns and walks along the coast.

They should change it up.

Every one spawns way up North.

South would be the new North.

I really like the new spawns,just look at all these tears! But really, you actually need to look for stuff now.Found a Mosin in a house,half hidden in a wall,right after i spawned. And to get military loot i actually have to travel a bit. I hope it stays like this.

They can always change it back or even change to a new system, part of being involved in the development of the game will involve them testing out sometimes frustrating features for us, so that they can get a better understanding of how certain changes effect gameplay and player behavior.

 

One of the things that drew me to the mod was how he talked about the game being a social experiment. Which I find to be a very cool concept.

 

Basically still voice your opinions on changes, just don't be disheartened if the change doesn't initially match your preferences.
