[Suggestion] Special Locations that give zone control

Hey guys, I was thinking of this game, and thinking it was amazingly made, but one thing i really had to suggest (i dunno if its been done before) to give users more of a sense of being in a real world, was special locations that give the character control over a zone to a degree by holding it. 

 

I thought of this idea when being reminded by fallout 3's radiostation.

 

Imagine, not just radiostations but all sorts of stuff over the map, giving one an advantage.

 

 

For example, taking over a radiostation could give one the ability to a global-wide chat, that other players with radios or walky-talkys can hear. (i heard walky-talkys are coming on the fallout wiki)

 

Or gas stations for cars that can be taken over by a clan or well-armed individual who can charge gas for food, water, ammo, ect.

 

I'm sure there are plenty of other ideas that would make a huge difference aswell. Such as radar stations telling where players are, ect.

 

This shouldnt imbalance the game so much because the player has to stay there to use it....so having a radar of the whole map doesn't really do you any good, unless you have a clan and you plan on monitoring their safety or if your just wondering where the biggest mass of players is. The gas station would be super-useful but would be hard to maintain control of (1 sniper clear it if hes good) and the radiostation isnt a big deal either, players who have radios can hear you and walkytalkys even talk to you, but looking to meetup with them might be risky or quite difficult/time consuming depending on where they are.

 

which brings me to another topic: radios, throw radios in game and allow them to listen to a couple of music stations, giving one a nice sense of walking around with music on, at the risk that it causes noise and alerts zombies. Also they can tune into radiostations to recieve a global wide chat to those who are in it. Also walky talkys for clans and for others that could potentially "ghost on" to listen in or even for people who need help to find others.

 

also offtopic but another idea i had was underground bomb shelters filled with tons of canned food and medicine maybe even some ammo. but there few and far between and need to be found.

 

also helicopter supply drops appearing in forests and stuff occasionally or in towns/city's FILLED WITH LOOT that hardly ever happen.

It's never going to happen, but Green Mountain would be the obvious choice. If you can assemble a generator in one of the outbuildings, climb to the top of the tower and turn on a radio set, you instakill all other other players on the map and win the game.

 

'cause their brains have fried. Then you turn into a pillar of light and ascend to heaven, or something.

This almost sounds like capture the flag. But I as well am convinced that something has to be done. Either the map has to be increased drastically in order to successfull hide sth or there has to be system that grants posession. The latter one is almost unrealistic.

why would this never happen? its so easy to implement? and adds more fun to the game and player interactivity with the enviroment/more immersive world.

I like the idea of players being able to control gas stations when online, people can already lock down hospitals and other resources why not have some actual mechanic to do so. Hell I've heard people even control wells as the game is. Radar might be too much, but radio an walky talkys sounds awesome ive actually wanted this since alpha sa launched. I like this suggestion!

It definitely gives the players something to do.

I love the idea of radios and walky talkies and personally would love a way for the devs to disable out-of-game comms to make these things necessities for large groups...

 

The radio broadcasting tower sounds good on paper, and would be great if you happened to be on a server with some decent RPers taking control of it...but I suspect the majority of broadcasts won't really be that interesting for the playerbase :) Some looped recordings coming from isolated corners of the map would be nice for people to tune into and find extra backstory elements/supplies.

Isn't walky talkies already in game? I'm 99% sure that my friend found one, and 100% sure that the devildog gamer from youtube looted one from a corpse.

I thought Rocket made a big deal about having radios and channels?  He even demoed them in a few videos.

 

I like the OPs idea.  There could be fixed radio transceivers at places like Green Mountain, ATC towers and fire stations that could broadcast to each other and handhelds, sort of like different global chat channels.  Or maybe leave looped recordings for other people.

 

Not sure how you "control" a gas station or hospital, other than having a couple of armed guys there.

 

 Radar doesn't make any sense.  What sort of radar could tell you were people are in a place like Chernarus?  Too hilly and filled with ground clutter.

They are in game, and supposedly work. I have one now come to think of it, and uhh didnt even try to use it. haha, Ill report back.

Isn't walky talkies already in game? I'm 99% sure that my friend found one, and 100% sure that the devildog gamer from youtube looted one from a corpse.

That guy is a copy cat lol. I have found at least 15 walkie talkies in game, they don't do anything right now.

10000% on shutting down out of game comms.

 

It would be cool if you had the walkie talkie and every once in a while (1 each reset?) a recording comes on and tells you where a supply drop is, usually in big cities. These supplies don't have to be game breaking, but bullets, bandages and batteries. Maybe a small gas generator that you can use to turn on lights in a building (like the school or hospital) or use to turn on some stationary lights in a city.

Disabling out of game comms is impossible. You'd have to run like a DayZ operating system lol.

That being said, it would be neat for radio towers, or backpack radios like in ACE to be able to broadcast to walkie talkies and all those little radio sets you find on tables everywhere.
