Question for game

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is the right spot for the question but i usually turn down some graphics when i enter bigger parts of cities ( mostly south Cherno around Int Hotel ) but the question is, What is Vsync and should i have it enabled or disabled?

im new to the PC master race

If you see lines on your screen sometimes, vsync stopps it. It also caps your FPS to 60 I think. Search google for vsync to learn how it works, and what causes the lines on screen "Screen Tearing"

Leave Vsync disabled, unless you have a machine that runs over 60fps consistent.

The lines on your monitor update one after another, if they update at odd frequencies you often get part of one frame on the top and part of another on the bottom, that's called tearing. You might notice say the corner of a building being torn into 2 different places briefly when you turn and so on. VSync eliminates that by forcing the frame rate to certain thresholds. I believe it'll be 120/60/30/15 fps and so on. It can't improve your fps so if you are at 50 fps it will drop it to 30 fps to avoid tearing.

Monitor your fps and if it tends to stay above 60 then no harm in having VSync on but if it fluctuates a lot then keep it off. I would err on the side of caution and just leave it off, particularly if you don't notice the tearing (I rarely ever notice it). It tends only to be an issue for large displays.
