Sgt (DayZ)

Spawn suggestion.

Recommended Posts

Hello.

I speak this out as a new player for the game. I have been playing this standalone from the day it got released as alpha. Good game for all parts, but now, after almost 50 hours of gameplay, I found this what I call stupid feature where you quit your game and spawn from the exact location again when you continue. Im ok with that... Untill I reached for northern small airfield to see if there's anything. All doors were closed so I was pretty sure that I was there alone with my other friend. We found some good stuff, but then, some other guy spawned at the same room as me and before I even realised what happened, "you are dead."... I got pretty pissed for situation there.

So, my suggestion goes: Game should have own independent save/spawn points, for example deer stands or some not-so-close to cities/airports towns. You go to save your game there and you spawn from there at the next time. You could exit game at any point you want, but you'd loose your progress.

Would this be a great idea or not?

Unsure, I do not like the idea of spawn points/check points the fresh character wipe is part of what makes DayZ so brutal which is why I enjoy it so much.

The problem is that people are able to poof in at any time, even right behind you if you're unlucky. Even if you scanned the area and safely adventured into a building to loot, a server hopper could simply log in behind you and pop a bullet in your head.

I think we just need a mandatory 15-30 second wait period in between when your character joins the server and when you can control him. Even though they may still get lucky spawning behind some oblivious people, they take a huge risk when server hopping in a desired looting area.

Server hopping probably doesn't have anything to do with this, I think this was just bad luck he happened to be in the room when someone logged in.

Logging off/in points can be bad as KoSers will just camp those sites and wait for you to venture out.

This would mean a lot of people spawning from the same area, creating a massive deathmatch in these areas.

Just add 15-30 minutes timer for switching servers and no one will server hop.

With that large of a timer then people will be turned away. You over-estimate the reliability of servers, when they crash you expect people to wait half an hour to get in game?

I would like a timer, but even 2 minutes would easily put off some server hoppers. No need to completely destroy the concept, just reduce the numbers of people doing it.

It will also improve when there are different hives, as not everyone will be able to get on another server with the same equipment.

Two minutes wouldn't do anything. Alt+Tab and then 9gag or whatever for those two minutes.

I think 15 minutes sounds nice. Not a lot of people want to wait that long for a bit of extra gear.

It might not be enough to put off dedicated server hoppers, but the vast majority of them aren't dedicated ones, some don't even consider themselves server hoppers, and the threat of a small timer will put off a good proportion of them. If that isn't enough still, then you could put it up to 5 minutes, but anything more is going to get a lot of players very riled up.

The timer should only be triggered when you log into Server B during the same game session you were on Server A and I think the timer should be 30-45 minutes.

That way if Server A goes down, you can still join Server B.

If you try to ghost from A to B to A again, the timer prevents you getting back to A (combat ghosting).

The timer not county for the server you immediately left, but it should prevent you from changing servers. So say I left A, connect to B then I de-synced and lost connection. I re-connect with the timer limit and I can only re-join Server B until the timer has reset then I join which ever server I want.

Problem is what if server A crashes? ok I join server B. Server B then crashes. Fuck now I'm screwed from playing for half an hour or until they bring server B back up which ever comes first.

Or what about streamers that run into stream snipers that seem to follow them to different servers and have to change servers quite a few times to lose them?

Nice try at the idea, but it just doesn't work well.

The game shouldn't be based around youtubers, but it's players. If someone want's to stream, they will have to block the server name or just don't stream DayZ. As easy as that. It's unlikely that 2 servers will crash, but if it does, we could up the limit to 3. So you can join Server A, B and C without timer, but if all 3 crashes, which is very unlikely, you will just have to wait 15 minutes.
