Balancing of the 30/30 Rnd. Coupled mags

Recommended Posts

I noticed a thread on what mag most people use for the M4 and the top answer was the 30/30 Rnd coupled mag. I myself have used this piece and find it very useful since you save lots of space and you have 60 straight rounds to shoot since there's no quick-reload animation yet. But, that's why this mag is a bit un-fair. I say this because you have 2 stanag mags. Un-coupled, these mags both take up 2 up-right slots in your inventory. So, having 2 uncoupled stanag mags in your inventory will take up a 2x2 slot-area. But, when you have 2 stanag mags coupled together, the two mags take up just 2 slots instead of 4. And with the mag just letting you shoot 60 straight rounds instead of reloading after 30, it make's it kind of un-fair. The whole purpose of coupling 2 mags together is to make every-other reload faster. Not so much to save space. I think Rocket should make the coupled mags take up 4 slots instead of 2 and, when appropriate, add the quick-reload animation for the 30-Rnd halfway point.

I am fairly certain that they simply have not added the possibility to combine 2 Stanag mags with Duct-Tape yet. It wouldn't make sense to find that many just on the floor like it currently is.

In my oppinion it makes sense that they will add it later, that you have to actively combine two mags with Duct-Tape, they just have the model already, the crafting itself is not implemented yet.

Right now it affects like nothing, comparing with other issues that the devs should and are taking care of, man. Just relax and wait and see if they are going to do something about it.

I mean... bug ands more bugs, uncompletely features... you shouldn't be worried about the space a mag is occuping.

You have a 2-Dimensional view of the Backpack.

There should even be the possibility to stack every mag of the same size, because they're not very thick.

3 Mags in two spaces - not in clothing, but in backpacks! - would be just fine.

No point attempting to balance things like this until the game is feature complete.

I think all the mags are oversized really but until encumberance is added then slot size is all the inventory control to worry about - I'm still sprinting like a gazelle with a fully laden pack (ammo box and medkit stuffed inside and full as well), fireaxe and M4.

30 bullets takes one slot... 20 bullet mag takes 2 slots, 60 bullet mag takes 2 slots

Small tin of tuna takes 1 slot, big tin of beans takes the same.

As mentioned by Khad, you need to be able to stack smaller items onto of each other AND weight of objects needs to be taken into account before the inventory can even start to be balanced - but all in good time :)

Would love to see a weightbased.

And I hope, perma-jogging will become impossible with the implementation of vehicles.

It was just a suggestion, I wasn't really complaining.

Yeah - they are adding weight I seem to remember, but I don't imagine they'll ditch the space-based system as well.

Would be good to see the vests having separated pockets (i.e. four pockets with two vertical spaces each if they are designed to carry magazines) and potentially different vests having features like knife sheathes or holsters (that only fit appropriate items) that would affect which vest you decide to go with (e.g. trading off some pockets and a weapon port versus more storage space).
