Newtail 5 Posted December 31, 2013 (edited) I think it would an awesome idea to implement a hygiene system and body temperature system to make this game a little more challenging and rougelike. I will go through some points to illustrate what exactly I'm talking about. ******NOT EVERYONE WILL AGREE WITH THESE IDEA's BUT I THOUGHT I'd SHARE IT, FEEL FREE TO TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK. SOME MAY HATE IT AND SOME MAY FIND IT AMUSING, BUT I MYSELF-- FIND IT MUCH MORE CHALLENGING IF THESE IDEAS ARE IMPLEMENTED. HAPPY HUNTING AND SURVIVING******* IDEA #1 ---- -- Hygiene Meter : What this is, is basically a meter (or doesnt have to be a meter, just blood soaked or dirty nasty clothing will also suffice) as a visible sign of hygiene. Now everyone is saying water can often be easy to come by, so lets make it more challenging on how you SHOULD manage your water supply when you're on the road. If you shoot and kill a player or zombie within a close proximity to you, what will happen? DUH. You will get blood on you, infectious, dirty, disease ridden blood on your pristine gear (helmet, chest armor, gloves/hangs, pants or shoes). The MORE zombies or players you shoot or kill, you will get blood splattered on your body if its within close quarters. Say, a room, or a hallway, even out in the open if they are close enough. Now, melee'ing something is even worse. OBVIOUSLY you will get a greater deal of blood on yourself so you can choose to flee, run , defend or attack and neutralize the threat. BUT KNOW that you better find water fast to clean yourself and..ofc, replenish your stamina. If you fail to do this, better avoid confrontation or suffer the risk of infection from blood drenched clothing. CONSEQUENCES/TREATMENT : You can choose to rinse the blood off your clothing with water, whether it be a canteen, a water bottle or even if you are near a water pump, you can clean off your clothing (whatever piece has blood on it) to prevent any infections from infected blood entering your pores or body. Yes, you can go on shooting and getting your clothing blood soaked but the lower the hygiene the MORE you are prone to getting sick randomly and eventual death from bacteria if you dont keep clean. It would also be ideal to implement soap into the game, so that you can mix it with water to give you an even bigger hygiene Boost to your character's health. Do you think water is a disposable necessity now? YOU WILL NEED IT. Final Thoughts : This will take away KOS to some degree depending on distance, and threat levels. If you are a bandit who's near the point of becoming infected by blood levels on your body, will you take the chance to kill another player in hope that he has water on him? And if he doesn't? what happens to you after you get more drenched with blood? Think carefully and weigh your options... Or keep a safe distance, let him go or you can kill him without endangering yourself, if you plan carefully...the choice is yours. IDEA #2 ---- -- Body Temperature : This is as simple as it gets, you will need to keep warm at night, and breezy in the daytime depending if it is morning, afternoon or evening. The colder you are while you are running around at night with only a t-shirt, the more prone you are at getting hypothermia, becoming sick, falling unconscious, and even death. This creates a deeper depth of realism in a game that is already cutthroat. It will keep players aware of their body temperatures as they run, walk or crawl to their destinations. The more you run in the daytime, say the afternoon, the hotter you will get and eventually getting heat stroke. The more you sprint at night without proper clothing, the colder you will get and become sick or all the above. This will also force players to ultilize their inventory space with clothing for the night and for the day, instead of hoarding everything they come across, inventory management will now be tougher! CONSEQUENCES/TREATMENTS : You can try to loot a raincoat/beanie for the night time to keep yourself warm, if you see your body temps falling at night, seek residency within a house to rest and let your temps go back to normal. Eating hot cooked food will also help.(once its implemented OFC) Or setting up a campfire to sit next to will also net you a good raise in temps to continue your journey. Do not sprint endlessly in the dark at night without proper clothing or the cold-bitten city of chernarus will eat you alive. Also, boiling water when you can and drink it if you see your body temps falling will also help you substantially. BUT BE CAREFUL..dont waste all your water, or face the wrath of IDEA #1 in this topic, cause I cant stress this enough..you WILL NEED WATER. During the daytime, endless running can cause you exertion, and exhaustion. It will be hot and will you need to cool down. Again, Drinking water will drop your temps, but BE CAREFUL. CONSERVE your water. Removing your raincoat and only wearing your ballistics vest will help keep you cool. Removing your helmet and gas mask will also net you a drop in temps, (DUH! who the hell wears that constantly in blistering hot weather?!) but can be risky if you encounter another player aiming directly at your noggin while your helmet is off.. These all come with risks and rewards, just be careful. If your body temps go too high, you will become dizzy, your vision will be blurred until you rest, find shade and cool down somehow. Continuing to sprint will eventually render you unconscious. FINAL THOUGHTS : These ideas will implement a whole new set of teamwork. Team mates will have to get each other's back much more then before, share supplies, switch off inventory space together, strategize attack positions more closer when engaged, and no one can sprint ahead and leave fellow team mates behind without killing them. You will all have to work in unison and unity like never before to survive the harsh environment of Chernarus. Nothing is forgiving and everything is forsaken. Mankind is near gone, will you make or break the fragile existence between the dead and the living? Again, the choice is yours, cause more chaos and destruction? Or find better peace amongst your brothers of war... Thank you for reading. :) Edited December 31, 2013 by Newtail

kingfury4 65 Posted December 31, 2013 The body temperature system was in DayZ Mod, so I doubt it won't be making a return in DayZ Standalone.

Vagnus 8 Posted December 31, 2013 (edited) I would add washing at the sea as treatment for hygiene meter. Edited December 31, 2013 by Vagnus
Zogvarn 118 Posted December 31, 2013 1. Hygiene: I think Rocket already has something like this planned given there is disinfectant spray in game already. Of course adding in the "washing clothes/items with water" aspect would add on to such a thing. 2. The temperature addition, as stated by Kingfury4, was in the mod already and had a definite impact on how most people played. I can't see any reason why rocket would not include this in the SA as well. Makes sense given we have raincoats, wellies, beanies, etc.
