Roleplaying in DayZ (RP)

Alright I'm a new player, bought this like 3-4 hours ago. Is RP possible in this game? Or if it is not, will any RP features be implemented such as /me and /do?

The best way for now to RP is to go on DayZ mod as they have servers dedicated to RP. The only problem with RPing in standalone is that all servers are public for now and as we all know that users tend to shoot first and ask questions later.

If you want to role play, then go ahead, don't think there will be any features though. I would be interested in trying it, I go to D&D, Shadowrun, CoC games already IRL but it would be awesome to act out something more tangible in DayZ.

People do what they want when roleplaying. Some people want to roleplay because it is IMMERSIVE. Which it is.

Then don't. Nobody forces you to RP. If any RP features would be implemented you wouldn't be forced to use them.

I would like to play on a RP-Server, but without any restrictions!

I don´t want a "NO KILL ON SIGHT"-Rule, because I want to play - not to discuss about rules.

So maybe we can find (later, in deet, when there are kind of "private" hives) a way to create a Roleplay-named Server and just play a charakter... for sure you got killed on sight, if you got an NVG, the biggest Backpack and a CAL.50 weapon - but it will stop the shooting on sight in every situation ( the quality-system helps a lot!)

That's not roleplaying. Roleplaying is, as the name would suggest, playing a role. It doesn't have to be a realistic role, it doesn't necessarily even have to make any sense (although your fellow players may frown upon you if you want to roleplay something silly or meta). It has nothing to do with what someone would do in real life.

 

What you want to do doesn't have anything to do with this conversation, either, you're just making yourself look bad.

I'd love to see that. I've RPed a lot on one of the biggest SA:MP servers out there and I still am, so seeing dedicated RP servers here would just make me like this game even more.

Checked it, I'm not into that theme when it comes to games. I like either realism (SA:MP) or Survival (DayZ)

They have rented a SA server, but there are no heavy rp rules or whitelists yet, so expect to see a few out-of-character people (and kos bandits too) albeit at a reduced chance than other servers.

It is for the mod. I'm saying if you want an RP experience in DayZ then DayZRP is likely your best bet right now.

OP, I'm all for role-playing in a game like this. I've done my fair share, over six years worth of it. However, DayZ is a little stretched for my kind of RP. I happily do squad roles, and such, but I generally give the game a more 'Out of Character' approach.

 

That said, I have been known to write up backstories for characters.

RP is very possible, there are many groups that have formed and at least have some type of RP. Doctors, military groups, all sorts of things. The mod had many groups, as did most of the other Arma Mods.

I think the major factor in why RP hasn't flourished, gamestyle aside, is the constant thread of banditry. To RP properly with others, you need them to co-operate. Not to shoot on sight.

Let's hope that the story features that Rocket suggested will take care of that, and reduce a lot of KoS'ing, opening up RP to the community.

I don't play this game as myself. I play as a character I come up with. Even if others don't know my back story and stuff that is how I determine my actions in game. Most people play along with me even if they don't know.

 

Sure there are some KOS things that happen, but that makes it more fun to me. Maybe they are just crazy bandits that are attacking me, so I react accordingly. I helped a guy today. He went running by blood spewing out and being chased by 4-5 zombies. I shot them all and badaged him up and we chatted a bit and even though he was not a role player he certainly played the role of victim well lol. Even if people ask where I am from I generally respond "grew up in Elektro".

 

Not much happens in this game that breaks my RP experience including the KOS situations. I say have at it.

 

These medics, CQF and Whiskey Co may not advertise as role players, but they do a good job anyway. Just curious OP, what would your character role be? I love to hear these ideas.
