The Legit Pie

For all of those that want to raise the player limit

Recommended Posts

Hi there, there are a lot of posts saying that the player limit should be raised, however I think that if the player limit is raised to above 50 (Currently 40) it will cause the game to be to densely populated.

Honestly the game is dense enough as it is and it is an apocalypse, heres a pretty crude map i made showing how densely populated servers already are if they have say 36 players.

This is pretty densely populated already and imagine doubling, even tripling this as some players want, it also means you could in theory come across a player every 1-2km! That's say 3/4 players from your trip of elektro to NWAF! The game would be so dense that you would come across bandits and other players left right and centre, meaning not enough zombies and not enough loot to go around causing chaos.

I think the dev's chose a great player limit, doesn't need to be raised AT ALL.

Doesn't happen. Everybody will be at the coast. Head 2 kilometers in land, and there will be no people.

It would be great if players would actually space out like that but you can prolly take all of those and put them on the southern coast. I think 60 would be a a good number. It might cause players to actually leave the coast.

Agree with Kors. Everytime I head inland, it's a god damn barren wasteland, I don't even get shot at usually.

Like i said this was in theory, but also at the coast it is already dense, but if the player limit were raised it would be even denser.

40 players is just a temporary limit for the early testing, it's definitely getting raised as soon as the server and client softwares can support it.

You do realize that each of your dots represent one person in a block of about 9 square kilometers? that's not dense at all. With the fact that zombies no longer magically spawn in the vicinity of players it means that two players can be within 100m of one another without even knowing that the other person is there.

Please note that the loot and zombie spawning mechanics as well as total zombie density are also far from final, zombies are going to respawn and be far more common so regardless of the increased density of players there will be more than enough zombies and loot to go around.

Spawning near high value areas or in the middle of fields should definitely be avoided but I wouldn't be against spawning in small towns not AT the coast but near them. Also, my hopes are that once 100+ players are introduced into the server not only are coastal areas going to be complete hailstorms of death but they'll be so stripped there will be no reason to NOT go north anyways.

If it is 9km sq, that still means you have a good likelihood of coming across another player every 3km or so, and if it is that then i retract my last statement and say it should be raised then, but want I don't think should happen is that it is massively raised to say around 150/200 which means that players are everywhere.

Lol um... Did you ever play the mod? Newsflash, the player limit was well above 40, and it wasn't "too densely populated." In fact, I've been having trouble finding any other players lately, on completely full servers.

So yeah, let's get that player limit up.

I see you've never seen a heatmap of server activity. Your estimation is completely wrong.

I think 75 is a good limit, if you dont want to run into so many people just hop into a less populated one. Boom problem solved.

And i guess if you want a deathmatch, 75 player maps are for you lol

Was playing one night on Dayz sa and doing my usual sneaking about moving up north from town to town watching a town from afar before carefully moving in and checking every house fearfull of bumping into another player.

After about 3 hours of doing this, and a few scares from zombies i happened to press P and i was the only person on the server :o

Is why i never liked the P option, Alot more fun when dont know how many and who is on the server.

In the last 20 hrs with my current char I've probably seen about a dozen players. A dozen.

And I only play on (full-ish) 40 player servers.

I'm really looking forward to servers with a much higher player count. Playing on what seems like empty servers is just plain boring.

There will still be a bunch of low population servers I'm sure.

Regardless, most people playing standalone right now complain about the game being way too empty with 90% of the players centered around Balota, that's a problem caused by the currently not implemented loot spawning mechanic. One that's sorted out we might actually start seeing players spread across the map and then we'll see whether it's overpopulated or not. My guess is that with the new towns and military bases Chernarus can easily support 100 players.

OP I dunno if you played DayZ mod but...

I played on server that had 75 players on it and you could not meet or even see another player for hours or even days if you stayed away from hot spots.

In order to give the world a correct feel imo, it needs to be capped at 40 players. Encountering another PC should be a thrill, and something out of the ordinary, rather than a mundane and regular experience in the characters life.

I have played the Mod, and seeing as you have had an account since August of 2012, I'm guessing you too have played it.

Have you never played servers that have at least 60-80 people? you don't come across people often, unless of course you're at an Airfield or Stary(In the Mod at least)

I would literally come across about 15 or so people in a span of at least 4 hour gameplay, and imagine now that the map has been expanded north, that's even less,

[Keep in mind, that would be once the game is more developed, because as I was writing this, I remembered that about 90% of a server's Population are at:

Zelenogorsk-Cherno-NWAF-Vybor-KabaninoBase-KamenkaBase-Balota]

In all honesty i have had this happen, where I never find a player, however in my current experience of standalone i commonly come across players away from the coast and found that i usually see a player in every 3-4km i travel.

Cool thing about dedicated servers? You can choose the size of the server you want to play on. I'm not sure why this is even a topic

Today I saw the most people I've ever seen on DayZ.

And it was 6. In Balota.

Honestly, once you get 2-3km north of the coast its completely barren. even on full 40 man servers you never see ANYONE.
