Extreme Weather

Recommended Posts

In the previous dayZ in Ireland, there's been Code Red weather warnings in the Southern Counties. Extremely violent wind and rain, up to 150Km winds. So I was thinking it would be cool if stuff like this was in DayZ. But I'm not entirely sure if the engine can do it? Summary:

Up To 150Km P/H/Pm (what eva it is) winds.

Rain Storms.

Coastal Storms. Wash those In-Competent NoobZ into dee deep blue sea!

I don't know if ArmA Engine could handle it well.

I think the dynamic weather in BIS' VBS3 would be a really cool addition for the Standalone, though I don't see it happening anytime soon, if ever.

However, one idea I had that I really like is to have servers that vary in difficulty based on the four seasons.

Easy - Spring

Normal - Summer (sunburn, heat stroke, more need for water, etc.)

Hard - Fall (fewer fruits and vegetables, need to wear warm dry clothing or get sick easily, need to start making fires at night)

Extreme - Winter (Scarcest loot, extremely harsh weather conditions, frequently must stop everything to make a fire or die very easily)

EDIT: Maybe if certain loot only spawned on the extreme winter servers, that could be cool. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet, but it could be cool.

EDIT: It would add new significance to the different types of camo. Also, scarcer loot would allow for an increased zombie count, if I understand correctly.

Extreme weather effects would be nice. Adds additional complexity to trying to survive.

@Doctor Zed

I'm not sure splitting the servers that way is a good idea. Now what might be done is have the seasons set by the hive and change every 3-4 weeks or so (for game play purposes not realism). Then have extreme weather conditions based upon the season be determined by the server.

Yes, building shelters in order to survive (tents, sheds, etc), creating a campfire to prevent freezing to death, having to wear warm clothes, yes, yes, yes, good idea.

But there is one problem. Just like with the night/day cycle. There is storm, it's raining, it's cold, you have to build campfires, wear warm clothes etc, - boom, this server has 2/40 players while other servers with sun and 90 degrees are 39/40. So this idea is good but only if we create the only one master weather for all the servers, so when it's raining it's raining on all servers etc.

I am all for immersion, but I don't want to wait until winter to play in the snow :D

new winter items: skis and skins and poles, snowmobiles, kites (with a harness for moving)

As long as the roads are not magically cleared of snow,
