What you think of the community in DayZ?

Recommended Posts

Realistically I find the community to be fine, there are a good percentage of "good guy" players out there, just as there is a solid percentage of "baddies" but there is also a whole cornucopia of shades between just simple "good" and "bad". The main trouble is that it's not always that simple to determine which is which and even less easy based on a few words spoken from a distance.

If you choose to talk to somebody you are opening a door for both parties involved. Whether or not both players are "good" is not enough to ensure that what occurs does not end in one of their deaths. There are so many factors which can influence the outcome of any interaction in this game. Current situation, current physical location on the map, current equipment carried by both players, past-spawn experience, earlier-in-the-day experience with another player, tone of voice, whether or not you surprised somebody, the list is almost endless. Simply shouting "friendly" down the mic and offering "freebies" is not enough to convince somebody that you have good intentions, when there are just as many bandits or bad-guys using that exact same tactic to lure people to their deaths.

Only way to increase your chances is to constantly be on your guard, does this mean killing on sight ? Not at all. But it does means that you need to take a considerable amount of extra caution before giving away your position either visually or audibly.

And I think this is exactly what makes this game great. Isn't that exactly how you would expect a post apocalyptic world to be. Trust no one. Someone who is friendly today may not be so friendly tomorrow when he's got a mosin with 20 rounds and he's starving of hunger.

Aside from that... PvP in this game is awesome so I have a hard time understanding why people are upset about getting shot at. I would be extremely bored by now if every person I ran into wanted to sit down and share a soda together.

I. Never overly friendly that far north I keep to my self, when I'm down on the coast I always wave and say hi although I die a lot and I just don't do it up there because it too far to walk.

I mean today I got to the NWAF tents i was in cover the dude is aw was in cover I mean he was crouched no way of being shot unless someone charged in.. Any ways it say "hello" he logged out :( and I mean instantly I never seen so done log that fast away from someone saying "hello"

The community here at Dayz forums are I think pretty spot on, real helpful lot.

Shame it doesn't always reflect that out in the zone..

To be quite truthful with you Op, engaging a zombie most likely caused what happened as he thought you were shooting him.

I wouldn't classify anybody in North West Airfield friendly either, nor would I try to help them; my group tried it yesterday and when they left the two guys go, the were pinned down by enemy fire.

There's a limit to areas you should consider friendly, "Green Mountain" is hopper territory, NWAF is shoot on sight territory, Balota is Bandit territory etc; pretty much means you shoot on sight or get the advantage (flank a person and get behind him so if he tries to run or turn around, you shoot) in any military allotments that have firearms inside.

I'm not saying to become bandit or somebody who Kills On Sight, just use initiative to stay alive longer and in the right areas you will find people who do need help, once you build a group big enough then you will also know what areas need a good tactical insertion and scout for a lot of bandit cleansing.
