Map notes

Recommended Posts

If im not wrong mapnotes cannot be seen by other players because we dont have the server wide channels on sidechat anymore and only admins could see them ?!?

Im wondering because today i checked my ingame Map and had some strange Mapnotes on it. ( i was moving quite a bit so if we can see notes by other players in direct chat, that player was following me about an hour or so :D )

So where do i got them from ? can we see notes used by the admins, is it a bug .... ?

greez.

Ps: the server is on regular settings i think if it matters ;)

Where did you get the map from?

If from another player then those are his markings.

Say you mark a map with the location of a car/ your base or whatever, you then die & someone takes your map, he will then see those markings.

-Though i think people marking there own maps beside your character also marks you map ( I think this because i once marked my own map with the location of our car & it also marked it on all my friends maps aswell. )

Weird, only possible answer then is someone close by marked there own map, which then marked your map (A friend, random person)

It has nothing to do with the chat. The channels still exist, they aren't removable. If you place down a marker while being in global channel, everyone can see it.

I have been wondering about this also. Remember someone on this forum saying that regular notes you make on your map can be seen by every single player on that server if they have a map of course. There seem to be ways to make 'personal' mapnotes that can not be seen by other players

hmm that would be a bit scary, i play alone and im in the north/wilderness.

I know allready i will be paranoid the whole day on if thats the reason for the markers. :D

ok so how do i get sure im not in a global channel, just switch to direct and im fine ??

...nevermind just saw this

"If you switch to the vehicle chat channel, and you are not currently in a vehicle, the map notes you make will be visible to yourself only. It seems to be a coding thing within ARMA 2 itself."..

The reason you see the markers is the use of group channel.

While you are ingame and mark stuff on your map while in groupchannel, nobody besides you can see it. Once you disconnect you go to the looby first, in where the group channel is being synced.

Therefor any player who joins the server or goes back to the lobby gets your map syncs.

You can test this with a friend.
