hannibaldaplaya 1095 Posted December 29, 2013 (edited) A) Are not attached to your loot, and don't really care that you lost items you can (currently) easily re-obtain in a few hours. Finding an M4A1 is incredibly easy as long as you don't get shot going to get it, because it is basically the only military rifle in the game right now. B ) Retaliate against your attacker and actually kill him / her. Hopefully you can actually get to the corpse and loot it before his / her friend shoots you in the back! C) Enjoy a good gunfight, which is always fun, usually. D) Learn your lesson and decide to never run straight down an airfield or run straight towards a high risk high loot area. E) Can relate to the person who shot at you, because really, in a world like this, wouldn't you do the same if you're in a military camp or something and some guy toting a rifle is walking through some tents that may have stuff valuable to you? Oh, also, remember, a punch to the head can knock players out, (which imho is stupid as hell especially when you have a ballistic helmet + gasmask on) which makes you and your unarmed fists surprisingly dangerous. F) Also realize the only thing to do once you're geared up is to shoot other people. D) And a thousand other reasons. Though I don't KoS, there are obvious reasons to why people KoS, with number one being that other people KoS, so people who get KoS'd end up KoSing. Domino effect, basically. KoS will be less common when theres more to do, don't worry. Edited December 29, 2013 by Insane Aradia
applejaxc 2500 Posted December 29, 2013 It's not KoS; It's tactically advanced self defense.
hannibaldaplaya 1095 Posted December 29, 2013 It's not KoS; It's tactically advanced self defense. Not really. Advanced Self Defense would be moreso... Hiding, watching, and observing anything on sight while concealing yourself so you can not be seen until you can tactically decide whether to KoS or simply avoid.
jaginun 87 Posted December 29, 2013 From what I've seen, people are not nearly as aggressive as with DayZ Mod, which is suprising seeing as, like you say, there isn't much content. From here on in, it should get even friendlier, unless there is a change in player attitude (Unfortunately likely).

If they start shooting at you or begin threatening your life, then its Self Defense, but if you're just killing them while they're walking down the street or pissing in a bush, it isn't, its simply being extra careful. Aussie Bogan 350 Posted December 29, 2013 (edited) I agree with many of the OP ideas.. People have to start remembering the bandits in this game play and important role, As do hero's. Without bandits there be no real threat besides zeds (Which aren't really a threat) hence the game becomes boring and loses a great deal of action. Without hero's the game will be depressing for most as everyone would be KOSing and not helping new players or even other players in general. The game needs a balance of Bandit/Hero ratio. It's up to the individual based on his/her's playing style which road they want to take.. Edited December 29, 2013 by Aussie Bogan
Sanitöter 59 Posted December 29, 2013 (edited) really true story bro. met people without weapons - very friendly... i met people with melee - friendly yes and then i met people with ... eh i mean i met soldiers, with m4, helmet, gasmask, camo cloth and they not even ask you if you are friendly they instantly SHOOT you. its a bit annoying because im full geared too now, and i want to meet other high geared people and talk to them, deal with them and so... but hmm impossible mission :o im a hero imo - but a hero wont die every 2 hours by bandits xD how to find the heros ingame? i dont really see other people on a server, even when its a 36/40 server... so what im doing wrong :D Edited December 29, 2013 by Sanitöter

If you only have a melee, though, I'll keep my eye on you. Basically, it all depends for me. When civilian / hunting rifles are more common, I'll probably be more friendly with those, because right now the M4A1s are just way too common to care about. Aussie Bogan 350 Posted December 29, 2013 people KoS because either they're cod kids or they're bored imo To of the points you point out are true although there are many more factors to why people KOS, It's hard to say it's because of this and that. We need to look at the whole picture here. ;)
elf cakes 559 Posted December 30, 2013 Or they're scared of being KoS'd and don't want to risk losing loot, so they kill anyone they see so that they don't have to deal with potential engagements. \(o - o)/dis is tru. seriously though i am yet to meet anyone in dayZ that has either not tried to kill me right away or has pretended to be friendly and at the first opportunity has killed me. i honestly think it's even worse in the SA than it was in the mod lol. after 25 hours and plenty of people met, not one of them has been friendly. that's a depressing look at the game's future

Samuri_Bake_Pie 96 Posted December 30, 2013 people KoS because either they're cod kids or they're bored imoI disagree, I KoS anyone because of the COD kids. Even those unarmed noobs can knock me out and take my stuff if I let them live. Knowing most of the population is a bunch of COD kids who kill people to be annoying, I kill on sight so I don't get killed. I'm not bored, and I'm not a COD kid. It's the COD kids who make KoS a real thing and therefore ruin it for everyone. I enjoy killing people, but if they are unarmed and don't come near me I won't go out of my way to hunt people. Simple as that

spiglord 3 Posted December 30, 2013 I agree with most of the OP's opinions... Good points, well made... Just remember that KOS is a mindset, there are no consequences or downside to having a shoot-on-sight policy right now.... Hopefully this will change as Alpha progresses... Survival is KING.... - Spig
