  1. 1. Would you like to see ultralight aircraft in DayZ?

I think first person only would be the best way to go but third person is still in game, so we will have to see how it goes.

Also here is someone taking off in a powered paraglider without a cart

Possibility of breaking your leg if you stall?

This would definitely work well in the game! It would also be pretty hilarious to strap the propeller to your back on maximum power and sprint through Elektro with no wing  :D Seriously though, it should be quite easy to animate the wing lifting from the ground as you run to gain speed for take off:

Perhaps a raincoat could be ripped up for rags and used for repairs if the wing gets damaged. I like the para-glider idea a lot!   :beans:

Dangers of an engine out + low altitude, the two people were lucky.

Also sorry about posting a lot, I just really like this subject and wise it had a little more people posting.

No worries kingrex; it's all good. Out of all the threads in the suggestions section, this one has the most replies. Hopefully someone at Bohemia will see it eventually.   :beans:  :)

That's what I'm hoping for as well, may the glorious devs gaze upon us and this humble topic. (Bows head)

I think a Powered Paraglider would be amazing in DayZ SA!  Once the pickup truck is added to the game you could even transport this around the map if it is raining.

Let's go flying!

They also have two seaters!

I agree man it would be cool, most engines also disassemble so they can fit into a cars trunk. I also have to say that I really do not like that guy dell, if you follow any paragliding news. He is basically a really bad guy that gets paragliding banned at places he goes.

It's late but I'm posting some cool info. First off I know that dayz is not set in the Czech Republic but it is molded off of it, so here are some interesting links regrading Czech ultralight numbers and a cool fixed wing group.

Interesting stuff. I particularly like the Letov LK-2 Sluka!

Here is a trailer for a zombie movie that has a powered paraglider about half way through. Shows how one could be used to get away from all those nasty zombies. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jevzjmPyv-g&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DjevzjmPyv-g

So I'm still looking for someone that voted no, to explain why they don't want ultralights in game. I'm just curious to see why it would not fit

Rocket kindly responded to my aircraft related question during his reddit AMA today. He confirmed plans for aircraft in the game, emphasising the importance of "helicopters and small aircraft" and that "they should be very complex to maintain". My dreams are coming true!    :beans:  :)

I remember seeing a cool video of a man who created a kit for a car I think he used a jeep to be able to turn it into a small plane. the kit had a frame for the wings you would attach to the car and a new panel to install on the dash to add extra instruments. I am trying to find the video it has been awhile since I saw the vid.

Yeah Rocket has talked about having helis awhile ago I believe he wants to use the take on heli system, So it will be more difficult to fly, I also hope they make it hard to maintain, making a pilot a in game profession not something someone can just pick up instantly..

Loved reading the good news about them being important to Rocket, cant wait to see what the team comes up with.

I want blimps! High up in the air, parashuting a squad in town. Looting and loading all in big baskets to be pulled back up. Or even fighting between blimps/balloons/light aircraft... once helis gets introduced all this will be kind of obsolete though.

Zeppelins are very susceptible to being carried away by the wind, they can be damaged incredibly easily (a large enough round could pierce straight through the balloon and ignite the hydrogen) and are unsafe (Hindenburg, and all of the previous reasons).

Not to mention how monstrous the work of maintaining them is. Sure, they're arguably not as complex as helicopters or planes, but keeping them very carefully in check is super important in order to avert disaster. That, and they're really expensive and hard to find. There's a reason you've probably seen few actual zeppelins besides Goodyear blimps; they became obsolete quickly with the introduction of winged, motorized aircraft.

Also, I can't imagine a small country like Chernarus would have the funds to maintain any blimps, and the ones they had would likely have been destroyed or quickly put out of use after the apocalypse. Worse still, if they had survived, the environment would have rendered them unusable at an alarming rate.

Hot-air balloons are definitely plausible, but they still take a lot of time to inflate with gas that has to be specially stored and burn through it fairly quickly. Not to mention that a hot air balloon could probably be shot down by a couple of 9x19mm rounds and a whole new system of controls (not that you'd have control) and engine physics would need to be implemented.

Honestly, they should just stick to helicopters, planes, and some ultralight craft. I'm sure it'd be awesome to unload an RPD onto a town from a balloon, but the work that would be needed would be way too much.

Blimps are no longuer filled with hydrogen, (the source of catastrophic accidents) and even when they were, they were used to cross the atlantic and as bombers during ww1. Weather does not affect them as much as u would think (atlantic) and they can withstand massive damage and stay afloat (short of a plane ramming them camekaze style it was damn hard to shoot them down). Maintainance is an issue, (especially the ground based equipment needed) but nowdays it is all mobile and, in the end of the day, what maintainance is not complicated in a dayz world? Finally, the map is not a country and in a country u can find blimps.

Now, how the fuck would a Light Aircraft fit into DayZ? Sure, it'd be cool. But it'd break immersion. Leave these to Far Cry.

Militarized blimps were rather difficult to destroy, but it was rare for them to stray into the range of capable anti-aircraft fire in general. Modern-day zeppelins aren't up-armored because it isn't intended that we're going to be attacked by suicidal planes. Of course having a plane and/or helicopter will take probably a huge amount of work to maintain, my problem is that helicopters & planes are reasonably common (as are parts for them) whereas blimps have practically died out besides your few hobbyists, museums or advertising corporations who still use them.

And you're right, it's a small, mostly rural fraction of a country, which means it's even less likely to have blimps. They might have one on the whole map, realistically. Sure, having one blimp would be cool, but eventually it would get boring as redundancy would become common and you'd never be able to take it further with multiple blimps. It's a cool idea, but I don't think spending the time necessary to create them would add enough to justify doing it.
