I can use my feet!

Edit: Other light civilian planes would be good too (a Cessna or news helicopter, etc).

There needs to be a skill system added just for that

A noob crashing a blimp in Cherno Port...Appears to have attracted zombies. Notice running figures....And that's way more zombies than are in the game

I am almost for anything if it's East block / Russian origin.

So just no overabundance of Western stuff & vehicles, these should be rare.

Although if story goes, that NATO made intervention into Chernarus, then we should see some Humvees etc but hopefully not that many of them.

Can't wait to ride in my trusty UAZ offroad again !!

Going back to the original post, I had another idea that ties in quite well. Flying in an open cockpit, which a lot of ultralight aircraft have, the temperature drops pretty significantly as you climb. Coupled with wind-chill this means that even on a normal day, if the pilot is wearing regular clothes, he or she will stand a reasonable chance of suffering from hypothermia.

In real life, ultralight pilots use thermal flight suits, boots, gloves and helmets to avoid this. So perhaps if ultralights were actually added to the game, the only way to fly them safely for sustained periods would be to ensure you have the correct thermal protection. Failure to do so could result in steadily worsening hypothermia symptoms (shivering, hyperventilation, hypoventilation, drowsiness and then unconsciousness). Making the necessary thermal clothes quite rare would add to the challenge of becoming airborne.

Good idea Kimmo, and not trying to start anything but why not add them to the game?

I can't think of any good reasons why they shouldn't be added. However, I do have an open ear for anyone who has a credible objection.

Same, I see some people don't want ultralights and I just want to know their thinking.

Ultralights would be... really interesting. You can get some that carry 2 people, so any heroes could use them as a cheap taxi service, or friends could just go out and have a fly :D

Compared to larger planes and helicopters, they would probably easy to fly, take off, land and hide. All you need ot do is find a semi-flat, large open field and you're off.

Could also have some aircraft with folding wings so they could be towed by car.

Two seater ultralights would be amazing - I can't help but imagine how cool it would be to buzz Cherno factory while your passenger gives the middle finger to sniper hill!  :D

This is a great idea and in fact most ultralights (especially weight-shift types) can be disassembled pretty quickly and loaded on to a trailer.

So I also just thought about the parachute that they are adding into the game. Do you guys think it should be a full size one that takes up your backpack or a smaller one that replaces your vest area?

If the engine supports trailers attached to cars count me in,Would be fun to drive from the base to an open field and start the aircraft to do some scouting and stuff!

I'm liking the backpack only option - everything should be a trade off in DayZ in my opinion.

In real life, we do not wear thermal flight suits, we do not wear boots, we do not wear gloves, and only pussies wear helmets. My longest flight has been over two hours and the only thing you get tired of is the noise and your butt from sitting on the seat.

Significant temp drop? Not quite so. It drops about 2*C for every thousand feet you climb. Seeing as most engines are basic 2-stroke or lawnmower engines, their max service ceiling would be about 4k feet. So on a nice 80*F day, that would be only 68*F. Pretty nice if you ask me. While I do live in Florida, I go flying in shorts, t-shirt and flip flops. Flying can be VERY hot and the wind is very refreshing. On a cold morning, yeah you would be silly to go flying but in the game, it looks like standard temp to me.

You're forgetting that not everyone lives in sunny Florida Raptor. Ultralight pilots in the UK can only fly without thermal gear during the warmest half of the year. Given that Chernarus is a fictional eastern block soviet state, you could rightly assume that for at least half the year the temperature wouldn't climb much higher than 10°C (based on real world figures for Ukraine). That's 50°F dropping to around 36°F at 4000 feet plus wind-chill. Try that in shorts and t-shirt and let me know if you feel the same way  :P

If that were the case, you would need said clothing to do any activity in the game. Running for hours would also bring the same effects. Flying in a helicopter or An-2 will yield the same results. The only thing you wouldn't need those clothes for is in a car with a heater.

Now I'm all for the ultralight, but if the clothing is required, its going to be required for anything done in the game.
