Close combat hints (I need, I'm not giving sorry)

Recommended Posts

Hey there
Any time I fight against some zombie/player with a melee weapon I really don't understand where I'm hitting (in fact it takes me more hits than it should). Does the "crosspoint" mean anything in combat? Is it better 1p or 3p?
Thanks

Hold your melee weapon lowered. If you have it up you will hit somewhere at sides and it wont hit where you aim.

Cross hair means nothing with melee. My best results have been with the two axes and the wrench in first person. Hammer is worst than fists imo.

All I can contribute to that is that you will notice a clear effect where you hit when you fight with your fists. If you punch a zombie in the head it will fall over very quickly. Punches to the chest don't have that effect so yes, it does seem to make a difference. The punches hit where the point is aiming. This is a lot easier in first person, at least to me.

As for melee weapons I saw a stream with Rocket where he showed this himself: it's the swing the matters and where it connects. Take a weapon that swings straigth from the right to the left. You aim at the (from your point of view) left shoulder of your target. You start the swing on the right and, obviously, before the weapon reaches the left shoulder, it will hit the right shoulder. This is where is hit is registered (apart from lag, desync, all other kinds of other effects). At the moment the animation still continues after the hit, but Rocket clearly said that they want the animation to end as soon as it connects eventually.

Ok thanks. Yes I know axes are the best weapons, it's because I needed too many hits with those that I start having some doubt about swinging them right.
