Using ammo boxes

Is there some other way to use all 10 slots of the ammo box other than putting it on the ground?

 

Apparently when taking the box into hands it only gives access to 6 slots - http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=209487075

 

When you place it on the ground it usually vanishes for around 0.5 minute and then becomes visible, which causes me to worry about it on every occasion. :)

Nope, glitched in a similar way that the medical boxes are. You can always just drag the ammo grouping onto the ammo box in your inventory if you are just adding. Otherwise you do have to place it on the ground.

As you take the ammo out the next slot shows up
