Expanding the map West?

Recommended Posts

Hey there!

As far as I know DayZ dev team is mostly focusing on expanding the map North, so I had the idea that it should be expanded West aswell. Imagine having a very large mountain'ish area or such in the West.

What you guys think about this?

They're not really expanding the map, per se. They're just adding more habitated areas and changing things up a bit.

The map is pretty big as it is. I'm all for bigger but I just don't see it happening.

Yep they are expanding the map. Haven't you noticed that area in North is expanded and villages have been added there? :)

They did not really expand the map north. That land was there in the mod it was just forests. They have just turned the forests into villages and mountains and what not.

If the network bubble they have is worked on some more and server optimizations get much better they could potentially make the map as big as they wanted. The only problem would be the amount of loot and/or zombies that could populate the land. At this point those two numbers will dictate how bad performance will be. I have a feeling they would rather have performance skirt the line between good and bad on a smaller land mass than a larger one since that would mean more zombies and loot per square mile. Either way it would be badass to have the western portion of the map rise up to a large mountain range then down into a barren wasteland with caves here and there. Even if there wasn't any loot or zombies and the whole purpose was to have a place for pvp it would be awesome.

Since so many of us playing Arma have gotten into the map making tools, the ultimate thing would be if they eventually released the raw files for us to change the map as we see fit or to make our own islands using all of the Arma and Dayz properties. People can already add buildings everywhere in the mod but the end goal of every decent server admin is to make a unique place that stands out from everyone else's server.

People already know this so they're talking about the useful, playable area that was expanded. Since the map in the mod goes on forever in every direction any asshat could be pedantic and say the map cannot be expanded at all, ever because, you know, its already infinitely large.

Well that's exactly what I'm talking about. The landscape is already there, it's just that it's only trees. They should add buildings and such.

I hope they do add some more expansion, there's no real wilderness anymore and it is actually quite fun having vast untouched areas where you can camp around in or whatever, but it seems everything is just built up now. I hope they, at the very least, just add empty fields and forests if they do want to add more land.

I believe that in the ArmA II campaign you can see a map with some cities to the west of actual Chenarus.
