BadAsh (DayZ) 1513 Posted January 18, 2014 I've found it pretty strange that as the mechanics are currently set up, it encourages binge eating, on account of the strange eat till you explode for healing settings, while I would have thought that in a real life survival scenario, the aim would be to conserve food as long as possible. That cartoon posted in this thread with the obese DayZ player is not far from the truth. I've eaten 8-10 cans of food in one sitting and not even had the "I'm full" message (in fact I have yet to experience that). A person who had consumed that amount in real life would be worthless for quite a while on account of the digestion.
wolfstriked 143 Posted January 18, 2014 Fix the game so that when you place can of food into your hands it stays there and doesn't go back into your pack after you eat some food. This way you can go into your backpack, place can into hands, exit out of backpack and then eat the whole can by pressing default action button each time the eating animation ends.Right now you need to stay in backpack screen and reclick the can every single time. rickenbacker 190 Posted January 19, 2014 Back to the game, I think this is exactly how the mechanics should work. I feel like right now, it takes too many cans to fill your stomach. I think it should be smaller, but empty faster. You should be eating often, but fill it up quickly. I shouldn't have to sit and eat 3 cans of tuna and 3-4 cans of beans and still not be full. That is ridiculous. I would be happy with a 2 cans of tuna, or a can of beans to be satified or "full". After say 10-15 min you should be hungry again, especially if you are running or sprinting around. How full your stomach is has nothing to do with how hungry you feel. You feel hungry when your energy (an abstract measure, in calories, probably) is low. Eating refills energy, but when the stomach is completely full, you have still only refilled maybe 5% of your energy. This is actually a pretty realistic simulation of how our body works: you can't eat unlimited amounts of food, but you can store lots and lots of energy in fat cells. Some love handles would let you survive longer than a totally fit person in a zombie apocalypse!

Some love handles would let you survive longer than a totally fit person in a zombie apocalypse! with the amount of cardio we do in the game it would be impossible to store much body fat. Also, since everyone here likes to bang the realism drum, when your stomach is empty you feel hunger pains. When you lack energy, you feel tired not hungry. Go to the gym and do too much work, you don't ever feel hungry until you are done and home and thinking of eating again, and once you have something in your stomach you don't feel hungry but you still feel tired because your energy is not "full". If you want to stress this energy thing as realism, it should tell me I feel tired, or sapped of energy. If my stomach is empty it should grumble and a message should tell me I feel hungry.
