Champloo (DayZ) 5 Posted June 22, 2012 Knowing you killed someone is as simple as just checking the kill feed. If you don't see any messages the guy either didn't die or hopped or something or the other. Not having that certainty makes the game much more tense and also requires more communication. Simple fix, I hope, and would really add to the game (unlike removing the global chat when you could have just added a toggle option for it).
ZomboWTF 527 Posted June 22, 2012 no kill feed yes, bu being able to see who killed a player whenstudying the bodie would be great
Champloo (DayZ) 5 Posted June 22, 2012 Also you'd have to remove the kill tracker from the options for players/bandits killed for this to function well. Forgot to add that tidbit.
Zeromentor 169 Posted June 22, 2012 I agree with Zombo, if I could study the body to tell what killed him, then sure they could remove the kill feed. But otherwise? Please no. I like watching people die over and over again, adds to the atmosphere of death being everywhere, and helps me feel like I'm not alone in the game.
Champloo (DayZ) 5 Posted June 22, 2012 I don't particularly care, but it would be fine to be able to determine what killed a guy upon diagnosis. I just don't think it's right for players to be certain that someone was killed like if they went around the corner but bled to death. Removing the ability to confirm death until diagnosis would increase the tension, and that's what the goal is with my idea.
Zeromentor 169 Posted June 22, 2012 Actually, it wouldn't help add tension either way. If you hear gunfire near a city and see people dying you ask, "Is someone killing them? Are zombies slaughtering a group?"If the kill-feed is removed, you ask the same questions, but don't know if people are even dying. But without those gunshots, you don't know anyone is dying. Infact, without global or side-chat, you can't be sure that anyone else is even playing.Sure you can join a server that is 48/50, but who's to say that 30 of them don't suddenly drop when you joined. And as it is, most people die in 1 round, so looking at the kill-feed to see if someone died doesn't help much when people are dying left and right. If you can't see a corpse, expect resistance.
jesquik 75 Posted June 22, 2012 I agree with Zombo' date=' if I could study the body to tell what killed him, then sure they could remove the kill feed. But otherwise? Please no. This is one of my main gripes with the whole 'lone wolf' strat, because people aren't forced to live with the full repercussions of traveling alone. They have chat, music, vent/mumble, or notifications popping up that people are dying. You should receive no indication that you are with other people except for gunshots or visual sightings. This will increase the loneliness factor you would normally feel as a human traveling by yourself in a postapoc setting. Obviously some people will handle this fine, some may even enjoy it.I love this mod for it's atmosphere, and the way it gives you real thrills and anxiety because of your single life and the unknown all around you. Let's try to achieve even more of the atmosphere of a postapoc life!Knowing you killed someone is as simple as just checking the kill feed. Your interaction with the environment should come from sight/sound. I want more immersion and atmosphere!
Champloo (DayZ) 5 Posted June 22, 2012 By removing kill-feed you remove the ability, in a gun-fight, or when sniping, to know if someone is dead or not. If you're in an extended gunfight that info is vital to surviving. In the military they often use the phrase "kill confirmed" to acknowledge the death of a target. That's the tension I'm talking about when I say this brings tension to the mod. When someone is shooting you WON'T know if they're shooting at zombies or players. You never really could know for sure, but you had a chance to by examining the kill feed. Removing this gives you NO information. If you want to know he's dead you gotta go look at his corpse and make sure he's dead. That's what I'm suggesting, for that knowledge of death to not be free anymore. SASQUATCH_OZ 0 Posted June 22, 2012 I agree with OP, removing it would be great. It would add some more atmosphere into this game, in which I'm always for.
terrvik 2409 Posted June 22, 2012 I only play servers where it is removed. Along with Side Chat. And third person. And crosshairs. When the Debug Monitor is finally removed it will be glorious.
Shag 90 Posted June 22, 2012 agreed- but add a player disconnected message?
Champloo (DayZ) 5 Posted June 22, 2012 agreed- but add a player disconnected message? If the server wants to, sure. But I don't think it should be a global thing
