Salute and Identify

Recommended Posts

This is a topic discussed in the past.

The best thread imo was by -=PA=-Mikhail.

Now with the alpha release of sa, it became more urgent.

Suggestion: After greeting (F1) by BOTH PARTIES, the names should appear over their heads when in line of sight.

Elaboration: I am friendly and F1 someone. He/she responds in kind and then we split. I meet doppelganger. We shouldn't go through the same actions just to id each other. Plus, if I get betrayed, I would like to know by whom. In general, it would be much easier to be able to id who u track/trade/help, AFTER INITIAL INTRODUCTION and for as long as both parties are alive, (once anybody dies identification desplay resets). Imo this wil promote "friendliness," or at least, make the life of friendly players easier :)

Hitting E-Q waving your head side to side most peeps use.

AS for me it's more like "Get on the fucking ground NOW NOW NOW!!!!!!!"    So entertaining they shit themselves in the process ;)

So i always bring a spare pair of shorts;)

Saluting someone is asking to get shot since you have a slower reaction time. I'm all for more animations though so heck, why not?

Just the animation part though.

If anyone tells me to get on the ground and starts yelling then I am going to open fire on them in game. That is such a hostile way to approach a situation.

I have discussed this with myself and I've come to a conclusion.

No. In real life you can lie about your name and still sound trustworthy. In DayZ, not waving back will be seen as hostile if this is implemented.

I don't know Aussie Bogan all that well...or at all really, but I'm pretty sure he was probably pulling the trigger right after he said "Get d-". He knows it's aggressive and wants you to almost fight back. He's a bad person, I think.

@Narko

People just wouldn't do it. Just like they don't in the mod.

Wouldn't do what? I wrote about two things...

Wave back or salute. Any of it.

People might lie, I guess. I just tell people to type over direct to confirm their name though.

We all know how that story ends. You can shoot on sight but you will be your own destruction!

I've so far seen all friendly players use the gestures, such as salute. So, I think you just have to stop being a bandit to appreciate it! xD

How about no. Just exchange names if you want to be friendly. This game doesn't need magical names appearing above heads. If you want to wave and be friendly, cool go for it. If you want someones name, ask them. Names shouldn't appear, you should get the player to give them your name and trust that they are telling the truth, or that they are trying to deceive you with a false name.

Not really sure what you're on about, but you obviously aren't understanding what I'm saying.

Yeah, I've changed my view to this way.

The whole idea of introducing and name tagging is not about the mechanics of doing it. I suggested the F1 salute, cause it's as simple as the push of a button. The main point is to have the name appear afterwards, when in your sights, so that u don't shoot a friendly by mistake and to be able to recognize who is a double headed snake when u get shot in the back.

Is it realistic? No.

Is respawning realistic? Not either, but since nobody pays $30.00 for just one go in the game, we might as well be able to know who we like in the field :)

Look at it this way though: If it disturbs u so much, all u got to do is be a "lone wolf" who never introduces him/herself. No name tags of other players will appear then and your name will remain in obscurity forever muhaha!
