Arma II: CO and DayZ Standalone

I recently had bought Arma II: CO when suddenly DayZ standalone comes out. Are they complete seperate things meaning that i have to buy DayZ again or can steam somehow automatically transfer the standalone version to me?

Arma 2 and DayZ SA are separate games.  You have to buy SA.

No you have to buy DayZ standalone seen as though this is the actual game and not the game that hosts the mod.

They are two separate games. 

Imagine what Counterstrike is to Half-life. DayZ SA is like that.

you didn't waste your money. Arma II OA is still a great game and it lets you play the mod.

Well fek. That's another $30 ill never get back :P

 

Arma 2 is a very fun game.  I wouldn't say it's a waist of money.  There are a lot of fun mods and game modes available for it.
