jimmy_rustlers 24 Posted December 24, 2013 (edited) In mod we had helicrashes. How about treasure hunt and rescue operations in DayZ SA? Once you obtained radio you can receive news about certain events: Rescue (minor event. once per several hours) You receive news about notorious (NPC) survivor who disappeared recently and his/her friends are asking for help. You get rough description (male/female; white/black/asian), gear carried (rifle/pistol/melee; food/tools/medical) and general route (headed from Kamenka to Zelenogorsk). Now depends on event you can find a dead body guarded by a horde of zombies, injured NPC that you can heal for a special reward or try to kill him/her and get gear by force (no special item though); get ambushed by NPC bandits or vengeful party; encounter some sort of special infected. Or another player participating in the same event :) Treasure hunt (normal event. once per 12+ hours) You get some tip over the radio about rich stash of loot discovered recently not far from certain location. You need to get there first, find a way to get past horde, find stash and manage to get away alive. Expect heavy competition. Turf war (major event. once per 24h) You receive news about several groups of NPC survivors/bandits that decided to fight over one of the major cities. They will shoot on sight and war might take for about an hour. NPC reinforcements will keep action going even if initial parties end up dead. Timing of the events can be different. MastrBlaster 17 Posted December 24, 2013 I don't personally like the idea of any NPC's in the game whatsoever. I'm all for heli crashes, tips about loot and so on, just don't include dumb NPC survivors.
{420}Mr.Smiley 53 Posted December 24, 2013 (edited) I like the turf war idea... Just because it will let the people release their PVP aggression in a healthier way :).But than newspawns going to those major cities will get kinda fawked. Perhaps the NWAF or better yet some discreeter military area? Edited December 24, 2013 by {420}Mr.Smiley
Steak and Potatoes 13480 Posted December 24, 2013 I found events on Mod servers to be quite fun wether they were admin based or set into the servers to run. I think we would have to scale them down loads to be on public hive, obtaining a radio and having it start a said event would be quite nice. Make the radio an easter egg type item so when you pick one up during the server uptime it can run a loop of a SOS location with items for you to raid on a set frequency, if others had found it they would get the same traffic on said frequency thus leading to possible fights over the items. I like the idea but just on a minimalist scale. Regards, Steak.

We managed to force them gather better gear and rearm themselves if necessary. Fighting for territory between ourselves (we have "bandits" and "sheriffs" in our community) and between bots was quite fun. That way there was 24/7 action on our server and nobody felt lonely. Atomizer 53 Posted December 24, 2013 The problem with this is NPCs, apart from zombies, NPCs don't fit in with the type of game DayZ is, its all about the players, they entirely create their own events and scenarios, we have already seen that happening in SA, even though it's mostly people being handcuffed and forced to do things.... Helicrashes and other similar scenarios however isn't too bad, there is no NPCs involved, just unique, random spots that are fun to come across and get some special loot. Granted though, we don't yet know exactly the extent of military loot that will appear in SA yet, I remember awhile back Rocket suggested if they do have things like NVGs and such, they would be on a global loot and limitation system, which means across all servers, there can only exist say, 5 NVGs, once 5 NVGs exist somewhere, no more can ever spawn, until 1 of the NVGs gets destroyed and is removed from circulation, then itll allow another NVG to spawn somewhere. And as much as I want to be able to get geared up with ghillies, NVGs etc, I quite like the idea of globally limiting this high end stuff, it makes it truly rare and valuable. But yeah, I doubt we will ever see NPCs in DayZ apart from the zombies
