Bourne89 2 Posted December 24, 2013 First - wanted to say great job to the DayZ dev team! The game is awesome so far and I can't wait to see where it goes next. Well as the title of the post says, I'd love to see some kind of one and two handed item system in the game. I was playing the other day and kept getting annoyed that I couldn't hold more items because I kept finding awesome loot but had to make sacrifices from my current inventory. And I thought of an idea that might introduce some neat gameplay - wanted to see if anyone else likes it or can extend the idea in any way? Right now, it is assumed that holding any item takes up both of your hands at one time. What if a system was introduced for holding an item in each hand individually? A player could hold and use, for example, a pistol in one hand and a bag/container in another. Or a compass/flashlight - the combinations could go on forever. ProsYou can now hold a container and defend yourself at the same timeYour total item capacity is greatly increased, especially if you are holding a container in both handsDual wielding if thats your thing ConsYour movement speed is somewhat slower & you are more fatiguedHolding and manipulating two different objects takes more balance and coordination, so to a slight degree I would expect speed and fatigue to take a penaltyWeapon accuracy & damage is reducedYou can’t be as accurate when holding a pistol with one hand. Recoil would be more difficult to manage as wellSwinging a wrench or a hammer with one hand is not nearly as forceful as with two (Not that these do much damage with two hands anyway) Larger/Heavier items would still require two hands(Rifles/Shotguns/Axe/Baseball Bat). This allows for a survivor to forfeit his speed, energy and attack in favor of larger item capacity. He would also be a more tempting target for bandits. Imagine going into town to completely ransack everything - you've gotten everything of worth and you're on your way out of town but then a bandit spots you. What do you do? Try to hobble out of dangers way with this heavy bag and almost assuredly get killed, or ditch it and run? Maybe you think you can fend him off with a sidearm and still hold onto your precious loot?. How many times have you had to make difficult decisions when clearing out your backpack of useful items to make room for something that takes up a ton of inventory slots? When tents are introduced into the game, you can make endless supply runs with massive amounts of loot to last you & your friends forever. You could work as a team, one player acting as the storage cart and the other players protecting and escorting him building to building. Just a few ideas I wanted to share and get feedback on. Let me know what you think!
