Thermal Weapons

Found a L85A2 AWS and although the weapon itself is a piece of shit (like 95% of BAF weapons) I use it purely to spot people.

I can see them through fog, behind bushes etc etc... greatest tool for murdering yet, the thermal scope just made pvp sooo much easier.

Just not sure it fits the DayZ theme...

I do not see any reason for this weapon to be in this mod. I had this rifle, and I'm glad it was gone when I logged in after patching to 1.7. Now I can enjoy the game again.

Probably doesn't fit with the theme but that gun is an extremely rare spawn. Having each player run around with a rusty AK would be more fitting but that would be boring.

You didn't even offer a suggestion for a more authentic rare gun.

Here's one: AK-74 with the PSO scope! or... well... military gear in general. My personal view is that these weapons should be rare in the first place.

0.43% chance at chopper crash, thats the same as NV... either way its too advanced for this mod imo.

Maybe the M4A1 GL Holo SD.... that should be as advanced as it gets, its silenced with Holo sight and M203 grenade launcher... or the MK17 SD.... but thermals are way to much.

I don't know how hard it is or isn't too add new weapons to the games, but it seems to me the majority of equipment you run across should be Eastern Bloc hardware and Soviet era equipment.

They had NVG and thermal weapon sights, too. If they're going to be in the game, might as well be "location correct" examples. Theres no reason there wouldn't be some laying around in military depots, and having them spawn on the downed hoppers makes perfect sense, teams reconning the era, searching for survivors, or a evacuation farce, strike team, whatever. They'd be outfitted with decent equipment, and I imagine they'd want thermal scopes for the same reason you would....spot survivors. (Do zombies light up on thermal because they really shouldn't) . However, as said, they should be quite rare.

If they're truly undead, they won't radiate much heat, given that their circulatory system is not functioning, and their blood is simply coagulated in their veins.

But if its "zombies" with something like the Rage virus (thats what it was called, right?) from the 28 Days/Weeks late movies, then yeah, I suppose they would, since they aren't really dead. I'm assuming from the wording of your post, this is the actual case?

Well, that is what I've understood from light reading on the forums. I am by no means an expert on what the devs have in mind. :)

Movement generates heat. To generate movement requires generation of heat. Therefore zombies emanate heat. It doesn't matter what kind of zombies they are. That's just physics.

In-game, infected light up as if human.

The question should be: what body temperature are we expecting the infected to be at? This would be interesting for thermal imaging, but since this is not a big part of the mod and something I hope won't be, I don't mind!

There is a reason why Dice took the IRNV scope out of BF3...it was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too extremely overpowered. made killing people no fun at all. TBH thermal scopes should be taken out of this mod asap.

Concerning true undead, Yes, that's true, from a physics sense. However, that's not going to be enough heat to really cause them to radiate the same way a humane does. While there will be heat (and when they're shambling, they aren't going to be making much heat regardless, since they're hardly moving) and it should imo be enough to cause a different signature on a thermal imager, it won;t be nearly enough, even running, to make them radiate the same way something warm, with blood coursing through their veins.

Now, on the point of "rage zombies"...I was thinking, actually, they might radiate hotter than the average human, as I'm assuming theres something going on in their bodies (fever or something, not a medical expert) thats going to make them "hot"

Rocket stated in an interview a while back that the dayz "zombies" were actualy infected by a virus. So yea they are more like 28 Days Later zeds than typical undead zeds.

I'd like to see L85A2 w/ ACOG or SUSAT from UKF mod pack - way better than BIS version.

I'm a member of British army ArmA 2 unit, based on 16 Air Assault Brigade and we never ever used AWS version - too fancy, too expensive and not as useful as ACOG/SUSAT version.

Arguing about the "realism" of zombies emanating heat is pretty ridiculous.

Fact: human muscles require blood flow to contract/relax. If a zombie's blood is "congealed", there is no way for him to actually move at all according to basic human anatomy.

That is realism for you.

I think that they should replace the Thermal/ Night Vision scope for the Acog or Holographic sight. I mean I love the L85A2 but I'd love to be able to use a sight that won't hamper my vision by a thousand fold.

I dont know why you guys are arguing about this weapon because its to OP. It is extremely rare its not like they are laying all over cherno and elektro. Heli crash's are supposed to have good loot. Just leave the gun.

As soon as this weapon is taken out of the game because it doesn't "fit the mood" of dayz, people will bitch about not being able to see the guy in a ghillie suit equipped with a silenced weapon shooting you in the face from 50-300m.

It's useless in the day time for a reason...that reason is because it's meant to be used at night time. It counters the above described player, whom thinks you'll never see him. Everything that's in this game must have something that is equal to, or better than it. To not keep this in mind means at one point, the game will be one-sided depending on who has the best gear.

You can kill someone who has a M9 SD with your makarov. But if they're playing at night and have a ghillie, nvg's, and a silenced weapon they're pretty much invisible. This is why there's thermal in the game. It's only useful at night, this is what doesn't make it op.

Why wouldn't zombies show on thermal? If they are up and moving about as fast as they do, they will be producing as much heat as any player would be.

Anything with a scope should be removed from the game imo, it adds skill and more tactical positioning rather than just scoping and sniping a rookie miles away.

Never had it but I think it should be removed. I mean the L85A2 could stay, just a different variant. Anyway, I hope anything with a thermal scope is gone by the time we hit Beta.
