sigvatr 154 Posted December 23, 2013 I have a saline bag and an IV starter kit, but I don't know to put them together. I can't drag them over each other or get a special selection when I right click on them.
Swordfish (DayZ) 23 Posted December 23, 2013 Put the IV starter kit in your hand then drag the saline bag over it. It should create a saline bag IV
sigvatr 154 Posted December 23, 2013 I have had the desaturated screen for hours now and have tried everything to regain blood but the effect won't go away. My guy also makes pain noises all the time, he never stops ever. I know I need pain killers but does pain go away eventually without them? The game experience is really shitty right now because I can't see shit.
Mos1ey 6301 Posted December 23, 2013 I'm pretty sure you need another player to perform the IV process on you.

The yellow/green boxes will disappear but continue eating until you get to the point of healing/healthy. You might get full beforehand so be sure to not get too full so you don't vomit. You'll just have to go running around for longer before eating again. Eventually you'll get to that point though. When you're healthy you won't have to eat for very long periods of time too! I'm pretty sure you need another player to perform the IV process on you.You will need another friend just like with a blood transfusion if you didn't know like Mos1ey states. Here's a picture of the status you're going for concerning eating/drinking. It'll then turn into healthy once it's done healing. Mos1ey 6301 Posted December 23, 2013 Indeed, you can regenerate health by eating a load of food and then resting. I managed to regen from almost completely black and white to full health over the course of a few hours just by stopping to eat and sit down for 5-10 minutes every once in a while.

Mos1ey 6301 Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) I've tried resting for hours and the screen still looks the same. Eat more. Just because it doesn't say 'hungry' does not mean your character is full and you have to be full to regenerate health. Eat a few extra tins of food and then just sit down in a bush for a while. I'm in the middle of no where but it sounds like someone is drinking soda. This happens all the time. Yeah, this is a bug. I'm not sure what causes it but the dev team are aware and will fix it. Swordfish (DayZ) 23 Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) Performing a self-IV is difficult but not impossible. It should be in the game.If it were to be added it even though it most definitely won't then it should have a very high percentage of failure. Just find a friend to play with. It's much more fun with friends rather than being a lonely lonewolf. You could also force someone to help you but the friend scenario would probably work out better in the end. Mos1ey 6301 Posted December 23, 2013 Google "self IV" Honestly, it's easy enough to regenerate health by yourself. I started a new character yesterday and almost died of starvation, leaving me with almost complete black & white vision and I managed to regen to the point that I have the 'healthy' status indicator in my gear menu within a few hours. This wasn't a few hours of sitting around either, this was while travelling and looting from Staroye to Krastinav. As well as performing an IV procedure on yourself being difficult and potentially dangerous, I think that having a player able to perform these kind of procedures on themselves we would be further discouraging team 'play' in DayZ and making lone survival too easy. Lone survival is a legitimate gameplay strategy and also found to be highly enjoyable by many people, including myself. Players don't need a secret unlock IV ability to justify collaborating with one another, they have their own reasons for doing that.

I'm not trying to discourage people from playing on their own, simply encourage co-op play. As discussed - there is already an easy way for the lone survivor to regain health. furyk 32 Posted December 23, 2013 I've noticed sometimes the distorted screen effects can be cleared by entering the config screen and clicking video, it's as if the effects persist after you have healed but clicking the video tab in config refreshes things. Maybe this will help.
sharrakor 3 Posted December 23, 2013 Sounds like you have infected wounds, or broken limbs? If you have infected wounds then you need to find alcohol to clean them. If you have broken limbs then you need to create a splint. This can be done by combining rags with sticks. My dude fell from a height and broke a leg, with the splint I have been able to carry on. Of course I had to drink and eat a lot to heal up but have been healthy now for 2 days. Still surviving.
dusty_nuttles 130 Posted December 23, 2013 You're entitled to your opinion but I disagree. We get it about player interaction, but lets not alter probable reality to make a point. All you need to do is inject yourself, junkies do it everyday like 5x/day. The only difference is the needle is connected to a bag.

Death_Dealer 3155 Posted December 23, 2013 It is possible to self IV In my opinion you should be able to do it in game, but it comes with a slight risk of fucking up and losing more blood
dusty_nuttles 130 Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) You would also need to keep the bag elevated and steady while you hook the IV drip up to your arm. It's not a simple injection. That is known yes, but there are plenty of makeshift items anyone could use in RL or GL. You could use one of those metal shelfs that are everywhere in the game e.g. the shelves in hospitals...or one could use a branch on a tree...or if desperate enough you could softly bite the top of the bag with your teeth. All the elevation for is gravity, you don't need it elevated for the initial injection. The injection itself is as simple as any injection. Have you ever been administered saline? The bag isn't even connected at first. Thus, needing it steady is false. They inject you with the injector and pop in the connector. The connectors are universal and on every saline bag, at least in the US anyway. IV connectors are plug and play. A monkey could do it.
